I think it's a 1 and a half side, rather than a first or second choice side. But yes, absolutely the top associate sides can beat full members if they are not on their game.

Congratulations to Namibia M for a fine win against South Africa

Lydia Greenaway, Karen Smithies, Kathryn Leng and Caroline Barrs the English lefty batters who have scored more ODI runs than Linsey Smith. As Barrs only managed 12 she might well pass her later this tournament.

Linsey Smith out in the middle for England at No.10, which makes her the first left-handed batter to face a ball at a World Cup for England Women since Lydia Greenway in 2013.

By ending 5*, she becomes England's fifth-highest left-handed run-scorer at Women's World Cups, ever.

Yeah, it's a difficult balance. Ideally you want as much continuity as possible, but equally you need to allow the weaker teams a chance to compete, rather than pay for 6/7 years because they cocked up the first auction. But I agree that it is an issue with franchise cricket.
somuchcricket.bsky.social
Yeah, obviously her form since has not been stellar, but she was the second highest run scorer in the last edition, and averaged 93. Plus she's the sort of player who's contribution in the dressing room needs to be taken into account.

While we wait for England vs Sri Lanka - on the WPL decision to have a mega auction, with limited retentions and what it might mean for the squads. somuchsportoutthere.wordpress.com/2025/10/11/w...

Day 3 of the Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier. Nepal and Japan already through to the Super 6. UAE, Oman, Qatar and Samoa are likely to join them, but Malaysia beating UAE or PNG beating Oman would mean NRR coming into play.
somuchcricket.bsky.social
Yeah, what I was thinking is, you are Mumbai, you want to retain all of Sciver-Brunt, Matthews and Kerr. They retain 2 of them plus Harmanpreet, and maybe Amanjot. If they were going to retain a 5th player it'd have to be uncapped, but if they chose rtm then could they get the third overseas?
somuchcricket.bsky.social
Third in the back row looks like he's just been told his teammate is the coolest cricketer in history for the 38th time.
somuchcricket.bsky.social
Hey @supertrampms.bsky.social - do you know if teams can use the RTM for a player who they can't retain - eg a 3rd overseas player - or does the retained/RTM combined have the same limits of 2 overseas and 3 capped Indian players?

With a total auction purse of INR 15 crore, franchises can retain a maximum of five players ahead of the mega auction for WPL 2026

Yes, I agree generally but seam bowling isn't really a Surrey strength and Stonehouse should be playing ahead of pretty much every other seamer they have with the possible exception of Macdonald-Gay. There was a lot more competition for Jones. That it's only a 1 year loan suggests some bet hedging.
somuchcricket.bsky.social
A bit of a surprise for me, as I don't think Surrey have many seamers better than Stonehouse, but a great signing for Warwickshire.

Surrey have agreed that Alexa Stonehouse will join Warwickshire on a year-long loan deal starting on 1 November 2025.

Go well Lex. 👊

Like that Pakistan are going to wait until they are 7 down to start batting too.

CRICKET:
Tasmanian opening bat Lizelle Lee has fallen just short of setting a new innings record for the WNCL, dismissed for 187 (141) in today’s match against Victoria, 3 off Meg Lanning’s 190.

Lee owns the WBBL highest score (150*).

So dependent is this English batting line-up on Sciver-Brunt, I think all batters ahead of her should be called Natwatchers.
somuchcricket.bsky.social
Don't think Knight hit that one, but I don't see how they could conclusively overturn onfield umpires call.

Not sure why the hesitation in taking the review there - even if it hadn't been plumb. What have you got to lose at this stage?
