I would almost imagine some big corpo doing that for their own talents to control everything and get away from Twitch and Amazon.

If people want to get away from major platform, self hosting is a good way but you loose discoverability, that's why a mesh system based on #ActivityPub could be nice in my opinion.
We could even begin with an instance dedicated to vtubers

I just looked at the #peertube docs and they do support streaming videos.
It definitely won't be as easy to use as #twitch but that could be a good start if people don't want to go to YouTube.

We would most likely a dedicated app with more support for community features, integrations, integrations.

I agree that you shouldn't throw it unconsciously but when there is good reason for it, and I believe the company won't do stupid stuff, or at least says so legally, then I could take it as "ok", while knowing there is always a chance of a backstab or a leak.

It was a time where you could stay anonymous on many platforms but now most legislation on slitely modest platforms requires proof of identity and the new legislations around the world go that way. You still have places where it's not, but for major places you can't anymore.

I understand wanting to be careful, all the time, but you sometimes balance convinience for control. Here vrc does what they can to make it as transparent as possible. It's not perfect but if you wish to you have all the cards to understand where your data go.
People aren't stupid like you said.

Why trust anything at any point. Why not live back in some cave. Going in extrime doesn't help. Here it wasn't discord but one of their partners. For vrchat it's not them but another company that does the verification process, same company used by other similar games like roblox.
