Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

A Halloween-y take on the #Inktober prompt “pierce.” #SciArt #penandink
A black-and-white drawing of a very cute little rabbit at night, plunging its tiny fangs into a beet. At the points where the fangs piece the beet, there is a spurt of red ink.

Mixing #SciArt and traditional #inktober challenge with the prompt “weave.”
A mixed ink and digital black and white drawing of a spider’s web against a dark background, with the spider crouched in the center, its bent legs obscuring its head.

Distracting myself from the news with a challenge! Making #SciArt for #Inktober and the day 1 prompt of “mustache “
A pen drawing on white stone paper of a female walrus head and torso, with her mustache of whiskers very clearly visible

Today a jumping spider hung out inside my nature journal, and I like to think that means I made it feel at home. #SciArt #NatureJournal
Photo of a large journal with mushroom drawings barely visible, and a page lifted up so that underneath you can see a jumping spider on a blank page.

A reminder for you from my #nature journal. #SciArt

Happy Rosh Hashanah and Fall Equinox to the Northern Hemisphere!

This is also how I feel about “healthy choices.”
A drawing (attribution unknown) on a school bulletin board titled Healthy Voices. In it, a cartoon-style white, blond child is holding up an apple in one hand and a chocolate cupcake in the other. The child has a perturbed frown on her(?) face and her(?) eyes are drifting irresistibly towards the cupcake.

🚨 Breaking News 🚨

The Admin just destroyed $10M of birth control purchased by USAID for women in low-income countries. That birth control would have prevented 362,000 more unintended pregnancies, 110,000 more unsafe abortions, and 718 preventable maternal deaths.

This is a sprig of #Silverbirch #Betula pendula I painted years ago

I was messing about on photoshop, and just like the way it looked with unattached leaves.

Something as inconspicuous as a twig with #leaves can make a really interesting and challenging subject.

#botanicalillustration #sciart
Silver birch sprid on white paper, showing several catkins and pairs of leaves, pointing from right to left on the page. There are 4 loose leaves at the base of the sheet, and two in the upper right hand corner. This makes it look a bit like the leaves are fluttering down to earth after being blown off the twig in the wind.

Messing around, doodling using acorn-cap ink I made. #SciArt #penandink
Some very messy cursive writing in grey-brown ink about “sort of how a rabbit looks,” along with an ink drawing of a rabbit sitting.

Donald Trump has personally incited more crime in Washington DC than perhaps anyone else living. He pardoned violent criminals who attacked our Capitol and put them back in American communities. He even made a man who was filmed urging the crowd to kill DC police officers a senior adviser at DOJ.
