For day 12 of #spacetober_challenge prompt eclipse: #mathematician & #astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788) and her calculated path of the solar eclipse of 1764. 🧪🐡👩🏼‍🔬🧮🔭 #histsci She also worked with Alexis Clairaut & Jérôme Lalande to precisely calculate the date of return of Halley’s Comet, 🧵
My linocut print of mathematician & astronomer Nicole-Reine Lepaute (1723-1788) in a vertical gradient (bottom to top) of bright pink to lavender on white paper. She wears a wig and gown and the portrait is from the chest to head. Her 12 diagrams of the phases of the annular the solar eclipse of 1764 as viewed from Paris appear across her shoulders. Behind her head in green is her map of the path of the eclipse across Europe.

One of the OG. This Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) was one of the very first sharks I illustrated in this style waaaaaaay back in 1994. I love the way she turned out! 🦈💙🤙

🧵 Space art thread 🪐

I recently got inspired by @dyamode.bsky.social to draw mobile background and always wanted to explore space as a theme, so here we go, some space themed mobile backgrounds. (soon on Ko-fi for free).

108x184, palette: bittersweet lospec

#pixelart #space #digitalart
Space art cuz my recent fascination of art backgrounds for phones.

A lonely spaceship cruising between a double ringed planet and one that is illuminated by a bright white/pink star behind it. Edge lighting and dithering into the background color to help sell the empty darkness as well. Some space jellyfish on the bottom right swimming out of a fluffy space cloud. Dim stars illuminating from parsecs away.

Happy World Whale and Dolphin Day!
A light colored narwhal, with de-saturated indigo instead of the more natural darker gray seen in the wild, faces to the viewer's left and seemed to make eye contact. It has an upward-curving mouth that makes it seem friendly. The larger amount of white speckles makes it appear somewhere between a narwhal and a beluga in color.
Its tail is curved slightly downward, mid-swim. Unlike many other whales, the narwhal does not have a dorsal fin. It has a long spiraling tusk emerging from the front of its face. The glowing white silhouettes of 3 narwhals emerge from the ocean to the surface, their tusks reaching towards the sky. The sky is a watercolor painting with blending pinks, blues, and green, referencing the enhanced photos of nebula taken by deep space telescopes. White opaque splatters imitate stars and distant galaxies. A single bright star in the upper right quadrant appears brighter and clearer than the rest.

The choppy ocean surface reflects the sky's colors. Icebergs float off in the distance but the water around the 3 narwhals is open. Digital painting featuring two orcas spyhopping through a break in the ice, seeming to look at an aurora-filled starry sky.

#sundayfishsketch — it’s not off theme, I was personally bioluminescing while I was sketching.
Very flat drawings of sea creatures, with monoline linework, and a rust/yellow/green color palette on a blue background. There’s a squid, a ray, a starfish, a nautaloid, a seahorse, a lobster, an eel, a frog fish, a shrimp, maybe two Ribbonfish, and one more generic fish. They aren’t interacting or anything like that, there’s just a bunch of little drawings of varying shapes and colors.

I’m not sure this text helps anyone. Sorry about that.
