You don't have to make money off your art to be a 'real' artist. Attaching financial stress/obligation/capitalism to artmaking can make you resent it, and losing that enjoyment and creativity isn't worth feeling like a 'real' artist. Making art just because you love it is perfectly acceptable too!

My assignment for Winona Nelson's SmArtschool class: Choose a favorite book and illustrate a cover for it.

I picked "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller, and my goal was to capture a similar bittersweet tone as the novel has.
Achilles and Patroclos, standing next to each other in front of a raging fire. Achilles is outfitted for battle and looks wistfully into the distance, while Patroclos ties some laces of his armor, also looking sad. Behind them and above there's the mosaic of a warrior in his chariot.

A sketch of Max, a tiefling paladin barbarian carrying a very pretty and intricate sword. After 103 sessions, Max finished his journey having found himself in faith not only to his god but to his husband as well, the same faith that is now making him wonder if the rest of the gods are truly there for their people. I did this sketch at the end of 2024, and I still miss my boy very much 😭

Exploring some physiological differences between Lyra and her mom... 🤔
