We show LLMs demonstrate "algorithmic othering"--e.g., disproportionately foreground racial markers, overproduce culturally coded language.

A Tale of Two Identities: An Ethical Audit of Human and AI-Crafted Personas
As LLMs (large language models) are increasingly used to generate synthetic personas particularly in data-limited domains such as health, privacy, and HCI, it becomes necessary to understand how these...

Reminder of the power of a kind word.
I gave my talk (a thought piece/passion project). Someone in the audience raised his hand and said it was one of the most inspiring talks he's ever heard.

Such a meaningful compliment, I will never forget it.
When you think something nice, say it out loud.

Yesterday we celebrated the great Lee Giles. Yes, his h-index is 121. He was part of the “lunatic fringe” doing CNNs way back and stood up CiteSeer, the OG Google Scholar.
But his legacy is people. 38 PhD students, countless postdocs, etc. and the beautiful, important part he played in their lives.
