I don't know anything about the Scott Pilgrim thing, but I do know that the main reason they didn't use Puck Man was because it would have been too easy to vandalize it into Fuck Man. And yes! In Japan, many things are named because of their phonetic origin.

My favorite short story by Kafka is probably "A Country Doctor" and every so often I need to watch this version in Japanese because it is awesome. 🎃
