I’ve had quite a slow start to sabbatical with attending a virtual conference, a couple of snow days, and bouts of existential ennui. However, my wonderful colleagues are bound and determined to help me value and celebrate this semester. Love them so much.

Supremely talented doctoral student Halle Fowler is hoping to put together an ABCT panel related to Deaf and Hard of Hearing suicide prevention or mental health. We have multiple qualitative and quantitative studies on DHH interpretation in mental health settings. We need help finding panelists!

Mochi is the squishiest of the squish faced and the stubbornest of the stubborn. Norabelle is so patient but is an absolute queen at setting boundaries.

Amidst ::waves hands at … all of this::, it feels unnerving to announce something positive. But as of today, I’m on sabbatical. I have a plan for my time but I’m open to tips, advice, or any wins from your own sabbatical experiences. Sharing my plan in case it’s helpful for anyone.

Having introvert friends is great because even if you make plans by accident you can always be all "hey I checked the forecast and it's supposed to be really late out tonight" and then they'll be like "yeah you shouldn't be out in weather like that" and then nobody has to leave their blanket cocoons

The downside of getting caught up on emails is when everyone else is on top of their inbox and replies right away…

today I discovered that approximately 430 emails from the last 2 months had been filtered into a new and undisclosed folder in outlook called “promotions”. of these, 115 were emails I definitely needed to read (& definitely not “promotions”!) and about 20 were critical/urgent. great work, outlook.

In addition to posting plants and puppies, I also mentor students interested in personality pathology. My lab is recruiting a graduate student in clinical or personality psychology for Fall 2026. So please send folks my way. Feel free to share! Thanks.

I am loathe to admit that ‘they’ were right.

If you give your household more than 20 minutes from when you wake up to when you leave, everyone’s mornings are less stressful.

Potential grad applicants: I'm hoping to take 1-2 new students this cycle!

There's no need to email me in advance unless you have specific questions that aren't answered on the lab or psych department's website - everyone's applications will be considered equally.

Something people might already know about me—whenever I run into someone I know, get a text from them, or interact with them on social media, my first thought is always always always “do I owe them an email? what am I making them wait for me on?”
If I look panicked when I wave or smile, that’s why.
