I have not felt so amazed and in wonder about watching a new episode of #StarTrek like this in over 26 years. “Vox in Excelso” is simply beautiful on so many levels and I say this as someone who knows a thing or two about Klingons:

Ming Official He Ao
He Ao was a censor, a high official in the provincial bureaucracy of the Ming Empire. The censorate was part of the central state. Responsible directly to the emperor, it was tasked with rooting out corruption at the local level. This document, in which He describes the threats posed by Europeans (called Feringis), is an official government report to his superiors.
Identify the factors He used to mark foreigners as different, and evaluate their relative significance. Pay special attention to his language and the terms he used.
What specific threats resulting from European influence does He identify, and what remedies does he propose?
Explain the distinction this document draws between the way trade was conducted in the past (in the “time of our ancestors”) and in the present. What is He’s view of commerce?
The Feringis are most cruel and crafty. Their arms are superior to those of other foreigners. Some years ago they came suddenly to the city of Canton, and the noise of their cannon shook the earth [these were cannon-shots fired as a salute by the fleet of Fernão Peres]. Those who remained at the post-station [places where foreigners were lodged] disobeyed the law and had intercourse with others. Here are some of the clubs available at Starfleet Academy, as seen in #StarfleetAcademy's "Kids These Days" and Beta Test". There's a Model Federation Diplomacy Club, A Philosophy Society (is that bust a famous piece of art?), a Klingon Bat'leth Club and the Association of Cardassian Cadets.

My all time favorite episode of #StarTrek:
OTD, #StarTrekDS9's "Once More Unto the Breach," based on the legend of Davy Crockett at the Alamo. It marked the final appearance of John Colicos as Kor, 31 years after he was first on #StarTrekTOS. It was also the last role of his impressive and varied career.

I think the fact that Oretagas’s brother is a terrible filmmaker is kind of the point. #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds “What is Starfleet?” is a love letter to post 9/11 vets. Please read this thread to the end. If you disagree, that’s fine. But, damn, that episode saw me and said “we get it.” (1/11)
Ah. Well that's a bit vague, so I'm none the wiser.
It wasn't the worst episode, I just don't think it was particularly well done. I've seen the news documentary trope used to far greater effect elsewhere.

So, I understand that a lot of people don’t like the #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds episode “What is Starfleet?” I get it, but that’s because it wasn’t meant for you. It was meant for me and people like me. Content like that means everything to us, because so few creators even try to get it right:

Starfleet’s mental healthcare for its service members is atrocious. It’s so bad, its almost criminally negligent. Ask for help, get help, and if you see someone struggling, even if they deny it, help them. That’s real leadership. It’s that freakin’ simple.
