I went back to teaching public schools to work with #Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kids where I can actually make a difference.

Turns out my entire job now is writing IEPs and managing paperwork. I have to cancel time with kids to do paperwork.

Week 9: I don't want to be a #TeacherOfTheDeaf anymore.

I'm exhausted.

Working two jobs to make up for the one that nearly caused me to lose myself.

I thought my education would save me from 14 hour work days in dead end jobs. I was wrong. My education solidified my place in dead end jobs.

Things that jolt my brain in Indiana:
1. Smokers on school campuses
2. Vapers in school campuses
3. The sheer number of 'Indian' heads as mascots
4. How bad Dhh services are compared to other places (that said Center on Deafness is awesome)
5. Not knowing any of the swim officials yet.

I got hit in the head by a kid with a book titled "Love One Another" and needed stitches this week.

It's a reminder of just how sheltered I was from a lot of the hardest parts of teaching in academia.

That said, the scar on my head damaged me less than the scars on my spirit via HigerEd. #Trauma

Stef is wearing a green UPI shirt. Her curly hair is styled like 2001 with butterfly clips and there is a gash in the middle of her forehead that looks more like Ashes for Lent.

Do not write IEPs for the services that you can fit in your schedule or the providers that are available. Write the IEP for the services that are needed because the only way to get more providers or justify a need to train more providers is to have shortages in meeting plan delivery.

My #FlyDelta flight has an info screen that says Indianapolis is self-declared as America's most walkable city.

I would love to know if these people have ever gone to another city.

There is no walk-ability in the places I'm living and where there is a walking area, there is nothing to walk to. 🤷
