Last year, I reported on a problematic NYPD unit led by a particularly problematic commander.

The commander once pointed a gun at a motorcyclist and threatened to kill him.

Well, that commander, Kaz Daughtry, has a new job.

He now works for Trump's DHS.

Trying to transition a child from independently reading questionable non-fiction material to something better without convincing them to stop reading books entirely is the educational equivalent of defusing a bomb…just like the end of Executive Decision.

It's incredibly disheartening to go to a former employer's site to find stories you've written from 10-15 years ago and they're just ... not there.

Years of journalism, of records, of knowledge, gone.

This is the modern equivalent to the collapse and destruction of the Library of Alexandria.

Reminder:

The Trump admin has made it basically impossible to file complaints against an immigration agents.

It's gutted the DHS oversight office that took complaints -- going from 150 employees to about nine.

As a matter of bare accuracy and journalistic integrity, at this point any use of "immigration crackdown," or the like, should be replaced with "so-called immigration crackdown" or "what Trump administration official have called..." It would just be factual.

Lord knows I'm not a fan of any of this corporate media consolidation — Netflix and Paramount both should be barred from buying WBD.

But in terms of sending a message, would be stellar if everyone watched Good Night and Good Luck on Netflix together next Sunday when 60 Minutes is on the air.

I disagree. Some may not care, but that’s always the case. I would assume they care a great deal, but are otherwise trapped. We need reporters to feel safe going outside what have been generational norms of their industry. They need to know they won’t be ending their career for nothing.
The White House knows they can call the press names, denigrate reporters, all of it — because those same reporters and mainstream outlets are in on the scam. They get access and scoops and book deals and career advancement by cozying up to the people who publicly abuse them. They don’t care.
