I'm making a puzzly mining game! In Dig Dig Boom you dig and blast your way through procedurally generated caves in search of treasure - but time only moves when you do! Wishlist on Steam!

First week of 2026, #Steam had 230 game releases.

Media analyst @thejenna.bsky.social combed through all of them to figure out how the #pcgaming landscape looks like at the start of this year:

> ~35% of all new Steam games declared they used AI.
> Among X-rated games, AI usage is up to >80%

After 10 years of development, the game being cancelled, then resurrected, @hytale.bsky.social CEO says there's 2.8 million active players on day 1.

If #Hytale was on Steam it'd be the second highest concurrent player count of all time! (3.2M record) First day est. to have made >60 million USD.

Been playing #Hytale all day, which just released yesterday. The procedural cave generation is insane! ⛏️

In the span of weeks, I've gone from someone who has never used Godot, to struggling to "get" Godot, to really liking Godot, to having taught aspiring gamedevs the basics of Godot, to strongly believing Godot's workflow & structure might be the best approach to developing games for many purposes.

I sure hope it does!

In most mining games, incl my own so far, digging/explosions make terrain simply disappear. Though in real mining / tunnelling, much of the challenge is to get the loose rubble out of the way, so I tried turning that into a game mechanic! Thoughts?:

I was reading some technical explanation and just discovered the world's most ambiguous label layout:
January 12, 2026 at 10:59 PM
> Mining game ⛏️
> You encounter a shiny thing in rock.
How would you guess you'd collect it, from no context?

🅰️ Hit rock to destroy it. Once that is complete you can collect the shiny thing.
🅱️ Hit rock to collect shiny thing without breaking the rock. Continue hitting to break the rock.

The simplicity of my confined level-based proc-gen is fighting the urge to experiment with making the entire game a chunk-loaded Terraria-like contineous world

I've overhauled my puzzle level generation so a level is now "grown" like cell tissue in a triangle tessellation. New elements can be inserted anywhere, and the whole level deforms to make room. This makes it easier to control topology and create paths that loops around areas.
