Happy election day, go vote for @gaineyformayor.com to make sure we keep the Mayor that cares about affordable housing and don’t elect one that is bankrolled by greedy developers!

Let’s get out the vote and win big on Tuesday!

Together we are building a Pittsburgh for all, and we can’t let our progress stop now.

Make a plan to vote between 7 AM - 8 PM, then reach out to 3 friends and make sure they do the same.

Let’s get it done!

Alcatraz won’t reopen.

But it’s the rhetorical point: prisons should be cruel and punitive and—importantly—isolating.

All things we know, from piles of work, don’t actually promote safety.

But it’s example #1963 of how “tough on crime” is never abt safety, but abt performative cruelty.

Fatal crashes have increased in the City of Pittsburgh by 43% since 2018. This is unacceptable! I was proud to sign onto the Vision Zero community agreement to do my part to make our streets safer for all of us.

Under the leadership of Mayor Gainey the city has made huge investments into the safety of city workers and residents. A pilot program in the department of public works saw a 59% decrease in workplace injuries and saved $10 million in the process.

Read more: pittsburghquarterly.com/articles/see...
Worker Safety – The goal is zero harm for city workers. In just two years the worker harm rates have gone down by a staggering 59 percent in the pilot department (DPW) and 31 percent across the entire City workforce. This means roughly 100 fewer City workers are being hurt each year, respecting their humanity, leaving more people to perform vital city services, and saving pain and cost for all. Money is not the object, but driving safety also saved the City almost $10 million over two years in paid claims, resources that can be used to better meet resident needs. Safe Transit – Before 2022 the City literally had no way to ensure important sections of sidewalk were walkable because individual property owners own their own sidewalks. In just three months five City departments collaborated on a process to work with property owners to repair whole sections of sidewalk. This process has led to 4 miles of sidewalk repair in the last two years around schools and public transit that have led to measurable improvements in safety and student absenteeism. This is part of a much larger “Vision Zero” initiative for traffic harm.

In all of 2024 Pittsburgh didn’t lose a single teenager (age 13-17) to gun violence. Truly a remarkable bit of work that is largely under reported in conversations around public safety in the city.

My goal as Mayor is to make Pittsburgh affordable for all.

We're building and preserving more affordable housing than any Mayor in 20 years.

We're holding landlords accountable.

We created 150 new homeowners.

We moved 150 land bank properties.

And we're just getting started.

I have asthma. When you have an asthma attack, you can't pull in oxygen. It is terrifying. If feels like you're going to die.

An inhaler can help, but in a severe attack, it is not enough. You could die.

She is being tortured, and she may die.

Because she wrote an op-ed.

NEW: Rümeysa Öztürk says she's had 4 painful asthma attacks in ICE custody, and not only is her asthma going untreated but a nurse tore off her hijab, saying, "You need to take that thing off your head." www.aclum.org/sites/defaul...
38. Once they finally took me to the medical center, the nurse took my temperature. She said "you need to take that thing off your head" and took off my hejab without asking my permission. I told her you can't take off my hejab and she said this is for your health. After a few minutes I put my hejab back on. But they did nothing to treat my asthma and gave me a few ibuprofen.
39. I had a third asthma attack at the Louisiana facility. Again, this happened in the cell and other woman knocked on the window to get the attention of the officers. I was told that the nurse would come to the cell to see me. She took me outside for a short bit and told me that it was all in my mind. She finally took me to the medical center but I was not treated for my difficulty breathing. The nurse left the room and didn't answer my questions
40.I had a fourth asthma attack on Wednesday March gth around noon. I used my inhaler and waited for it to pass. I was in pain and very scared but I didn't ask to go to the medical center because I don't feel that they address my medical needs.
41. I don't feel safe at the medical center because of my prior experiences there.
They complain when I go there and speak to me in an insulting and condescending manner. They also write information in my medical records that is not accurate. The doctor and nurses there are rude and uncaring.

Yeah I’m voting for the only Mayoral candidate who is standing up for trans people!
gaineyformayor.com
UPMC's decision to cower to Trump and deny patients health care isn't just about the trans community.

We know what’s coming next: attacks on emergency care for immigrants, reproductive care, Medicaid access, services for disabled people, and other life-saving treatments. (1/2)

Team Gainey isn't shy about being less accessible to developers.

Deputy Mayor Jake Pawlak: “What they are talking about is ... calling in political favors to get preferred treatment. That’s something that’s been done a lot in the past that we absolutely don’t do.”

That’s right. I answer to the People of Pittsburgh — not the predatory landlords and developers who only care about their profit margins, raising rents, keeping our neighbors from being able to buy a home, and pricing our friends and family out.

New: We found that 80% of campaign donations from real estate developers and construction are going to Corey O'Connor and his bid to unseat Ed Gainey as Pittsburgh mayor.

Why?

If Corey understood his old council district, the mayor’s zoning legislation, or even the existing zoning code, he would know that Greenfield and Lincoln Place are almost entirely R1 and R2, so wouldn't be impacted by IZ hardly any, if at all. www.publicsource.org/pittsburgh-m...
O’Connor said he voted for inclusionary zoning to apply to Lawrenceville when he was a council member. “But Lawrenceville’s market is different than Lincoln Place’s market, and West End’s market is different than Greenfield’s market.”
