Yikes. Second time this year we’ve had someone electrocuted here on W. Mount Ida. Not sure how hurt he is. Road is closed.

Just got a text from “Tom at UHB Investments” wanting to know if I would consider selling my house for $222,000 less than I paid for it 3 years ago. Ummm…no?

Thank you @ericspiegel.bsky.social for the holiday card! So warm & cozy. Perfect for this slightly snowy day.

This virtual webinar hosted by Coalition for Smarter Growth on Wednesday looks fantastic! The question of how building luxury housing helps w/ affordability is one that feels counterintuitive & tends to break people’s brains. (Justine’s videos are great if you haven’t seen them!)
Webinar: Beyond Luxury: How New Housing Affects Affordability; Virtual Screening; Q&A with Justine Underhill - Coalition For Smarter Growth
How does new housing affect affordability? Join us as we explore this question through a virtual screening of the video, What Luxury Housing Does to Homelessness, followed by a Q&A with […]

Been really bummed about having to cancel my WaPo subscription, mostly missing Carolyn Hax & Capital Weather Gang (& the occasional good reporting that still happens). Can’t believe I forgot I can get free online access via the Alexandria Library! (Thanks for the reminder @alexgoyette.bsky.social!)

Love to see it! ❄️

I just got an email saying that because I bought something for 30% off during their Black Friday sale, they were offering me 1 day to take advantage of 40% off…of the thing that I had just bought (which I haven’t even gotten yet). What?
Within the last three hours I've received Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday emails... DO DAYS OF THE WEEK MEAN NOTHING ANYMORE???

We Rate Dogs is always good, but oh my. This compilation had me actually LOLing. Though personally I think the snowman pup deserved to be ranked way higher than 9th.
Here are my top 10 dogs carrying big sticks!

Had to check this out & happy to say that I scored a @kerrinsuzanne.bsky.social original chicken! Who knew it even has little chicken feet. 🐓

Of course, also got a bunch of other beautiful pieces because I’m a sucker for pottery.

How easy is it to stretch suede shoes?

Been searching for comfortable penny loafers for months. Most in my size are too narrow/small. Going up 1/2 size makes them too long.

Finally found a pair that fits but is just a bit too tight. 1/2 size up fits but hurts my heels because they slip a bit.

Great housing thread. Find out what’s going on at the state & city level (and what you can do to help!)
Time for my semi-regular thread on upcoming housing actions & events in Alx! 🧵

Starting off with something for any Virginian: elections are over, now email your state legislators to support statewide housing reforms in the upcoming General Assembly Session!

actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...
Ask Your Delegate & Senator to Support More Homes:
Virginia is short roughly 188,000 homes due to restrictive local zoning rules that limit home construction and prevents affordable homes from being built. This home shortage leads to bidding wars and ...

They are destroying everything aren’t they?

I spent two summers interning at a laser optics lab at Goddard in the late 80s (which was really cool but also what actually helped me realize I did not want to be an electrical engineer.) Fun fact: was thrilled to be making $7+/hr (double min wage!)
BREAKING: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is illegally closing 13 campus buildings (including ~100 laboratories).
