Hitting me hard. In Vienna my grandmother hid my mother from Russian soldiers known for raping and worse during the occupation, after the Nazis did the same in WWII. My grandfather had been forced to flee to Poland because he refused to join the Nazi party. He walked back a skeleton after the war.

The lesson from the Press Secretary's disassembling here is that more journalists should take their adversarial obligations seriously. The question itself was strictly factual; the characterization he then offered was prompted by Leavitt herself. It's fair, and more importantly good, journalism.

It's similarly "odd" how the right's advancement of colorblindness as the better means of promoting racial justice lasted precisely until they had the political power to unleash widespread explicit race-based oppression.
It's odd, isn't it, how the supposed "woke overreach" that we are told has repulsed all of America & sent Dems into the wilderness coincided, almost perfectly, with final collapse of media gatekeepers & the rise of unrestrained RW media & social media dominance.
