The FBI’s core values, including integrity, compassion, fairness, and allegiance to the Constitution - and oh, yeah, diversity, are being painted over at the FBI Academy. Source: NYT.

I've got that point of tech geek middle age where I'm just randomly finding monitors I'd forgotten I had. Good ones too, not thirty year old CRTs made out of goldfish bowls and lead.

M45, the Pleiades. First try with the Seestar S50 smartscope's mosaic mode. One pic wouldn't get the whole cluster, so this image was made up of many pictures (a whole hour of 10-second pics) stitched together automatically in the app.

Not bad for a 50mm scope in the middle of a city!

I feel the need to vent about SSL certificates and Java keywords and stuff. I have no problem with them in my actual code, it's just my development tools (*cough*gradle*cough*) that cause me endless problems.

Last night, I had my first astrophotography sessson of 2025, by which I mean I stuck my Seestar smart scope out in the subzero temperatures while I stayed indoors where it's warm. Took a pic of one of my favourite objects, Messier 42, the Orion Nebula.
