I shud be asleep but reading abt structural engineering 😭 funny cos I wasn’t fond of one of my 1st yr modules, which was geology (rocks, tectonic plates etc), but now I’m lowkey obsessed with house structures and old timey wimey building materials

I’ve been reading about condensation and damp. I’ve finally found older house experts.
A few fb groups I’m in, I side eye non-experts advising ‘tank it or inject it’ but pics show bridged dpc, no air brick, no 150mm space between ground level. Always ask an expert to locate the source.

Before wasting money on an injected Damp Proof Course consider this

Built c1800 with no visible tar/slate DPC, yet no damp problems. The difference between this house and those that DO?

Well, the ground level has been kept below the open DPC, assisting evaporation. 🧵

It’s annoying to hear people say that old Damp courses have failed. Because they haven’t.
It’s complete nonsense.

What happens is people interfere, with them, eg filling these breather holes with cement mortar, bridging the DPC.

Scheduled a trip to our local nature park after Christmas, we’re hoping to catch starling murmurations. Even if we don’t catch a glimpse, we’re going for a meal afterwards at the local pub. I swear eating food is the greatest thing on earth for me.
Bird spotting and food times, my kind of vibe 😎

I wrapped remaining Christmas presents yesterday. Can it be Christmas Day already, I just want to eat delicious food.
This year I will not vomit (I threw up Xmas dinner last year oops) so I will stick to water and my mum has confirmed no turmeric or cumin usage. Let’s do this 💪🏾

Ahhhh peace and quiet this morning.
*hears farting next door.
Nothing like living in a semi detached house with party walls and zero noise isolation

Disability isn’t a bad word.

There’s nothing wrong with being disabled.

There’s nothing wrong with identifying as disabled.

Ableism teaches us that we have to hide our disabilities.

Self acceptance means we stop hiding.

We won’t go gently for the comfort of others.

Had a lovely time at rollerderby event, I did some nsoing (scorekeeping) and chatted to friends. Being sociable is good for the soul. Now to eat pizza, scream at Overwatch and snuggle my hubby

My accounts on Meta where so much of my disability activism has lived are slowly being taken away. First Facebook was banned for me, and now Instagram is slowly "reviewing my accounts" and asking me to verify who I am way more than usual. That said, please follow @andrewgurza.bsky.social here.

Instead of doing a consumerism on "Black" Friday, consider supporting small businesses, dropping a few coins in someone's ko-fi or go fund me, sign up for their patreon instead.

Life is expensive, things are hard. Drop coins to humans, not AI, or big corporations today.

Bees can discriminate long 🟡🟡 vs short🟡 flashes, a bit like the "dash" and "dot" of the Morse code.

A successful car shopping trip for my relative, I acted as the taxi driver and took them around to appts and dropping by dealerships. It was raining and there was a lot of traffic but I enjoyed the countryside parts. Tomorrow will be rest day and snacks 🥰

My fav Lestat is Sam Reid who imo really captures the love/ hate/ intimate relationship with Louis.
I felt the relationship in the film with Tom Cruise didn’t get that deep, they’re like buddies (I guess homoerotic undertones had to be subtle in the 90s due to the cultural climate at that time).
