Most of Strix’s serious relationships end up this way. Life as a working adult is hard, and she tends to be attracted to people who naturally gravitate to positions of responsibility.
She visits partners whenever she can and uses letters and little gifts to make up the gap.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Witcher: Crossroad of Ravens is an enjoyable quick read. It follows the first year or so of Geralt’s Witchering career, and has an energy more like the short story collections than the later “saga” novels.
