After the shooting in Parkland, Florida lawmakers took action to keep guns out of the hands of teenagers. But this week, gun extremists in the Florida House pulled the state backward on gun safety, passing a bill to lower the age to buy guns back down to 18.

Fifteen years ago, a man with a Glock pistol and high-capacity magazines opened fire at a “Congress on Your Corner” event hosted by @GabbyGiffords.bsky.social in Tucson, Arizona. Six people were shot and killed and 13 others were shot and wounded, including Congresswoman Giffords.

This horrific incident does not exist in a vacuum. The Trump Administration has cut millions of dollars of funding to school safety, the Department of Education, and the ATF while funneling more into ICE.

Five years ago today, a police officer shot Andre Hill four times while he was leaving a friend’s house. Officers handcuffed Andre as he laid unresponsive on the ground and did not perform first aid for ten minutes after the shooting. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One year ago today, a student opened fire inside a classroom at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin. Armed with a Glock pistol and high-capacity magazines, she shot and killed Rubi Vergara, a 14-year-old student, and Erin West, a teacher, and wounded six others in minutes.

Today was the second day of final exams for Brown University students. Instead of finishing the semester strong, thousands were forced to shelter-in-place while an active shooter stormed the campus. Reports say at least two people were killed, and eight others are in critical, but stable, condition.
