Why don’t people use buses more? It’s a rural area (and Stratford’s good for walking). But what are the solutions?

Some of the people we hear from would like to use buses more but don’t. When you have to use them, the frustration is much more intense.

"Right now, I have no choice, but if one day I buy a car, I'll definitely drive everywhere rather than relying on a bus that's always late, often dirty, takes too long, and when it gets cancelled, no one even informs you - you just get left behind" - Stratford Resident

Thanks to Chris and Alistair of The Butterfly Garden for showing us round their recycling facilities. We were very impressed by the huge number of videotapes recycled, and by all the other activities on offer (music, gardening, cooking, acting!)

One of members, Janet, visited The Butterfly Garden near Cheltenham to see how they recycle old videotapes! Videotapes have to be broken up and the bits sorted by volunteers, then removed by the #waste company. Looking to help bring something similar to #StratfordUponAvon. @stratforddc.bsky.social

This Very Light Rail (VLR) vehicle is interesting, especially as TDI's office is in Meer Street in #StratfordUponAvon, a few doors down from our @suaclimate.bsky.social Climate Hub. I wonder if they let railway/climate nerds pop in for a chat? #railways #transport

"The X18 buses weren't stopping at St John's church, but there was nothing at the stop to say that. It was showing on the stop display and the Stagecoach app as due. I only found out when I call Stagecoach!" - Alex, Stratford Resident

"The peak time buses I use tend to be reliable. But they sometimes don't turn up, or the app doesn't work, or it isn't accurate. And you have to go early, in case they turn up early, and then leave early." - Mary, Stratford resident.

Reminder: Every Friday 5-7pm there is a Community Kitchen event at the Ken Kennett Centre in #StratfordUponAvon. A pay-as-you-feel meal cooked by local chefs with food that would otherwise go to waste. Bring a doggy bag to take some home too!

Cash-strapped Councils are reluctant to price car parks to a point that would increase bus use. Why not make buses free, like in Luxemburg?

I find it difficult to work out where the buses stop and which timetable
is accurate. Having moved from a place where we used the buses a lot we’ve not used a bus in the 8 months we’ve lived here. It would help if the website was easier. - Carol, Stratford Resident
