I can already tell that a)this wip will need a heavy set of rewrites when it’s done and b) I need to finish it first before I can see what kind of rewrites to do 🫠

Found two indie novels featuring phages as a core plot point, but the ebook editions are only on KU, which I don’t have, and the pbs are £28(!) and £62(!!).

One of these books was written by an actual scientist and I’d love to read it, but that’s simply an absurd price for a paperback.

I agreed to be a rent guarantor for a friend who is desperately trying to move out of a really bad situationship. The ex owns the house and won’t leave, so it had to be her and all the kids who go. Tough situation.

Really happy to see folks in the SF/F community here stepping up and donating to food banks and organizations that feed people. This is @adapalmer.bsky.social's doing, and it's making a difference. You can donate too, even if you're not on the Bluesky SF/F community. Need is everywhere.

I am currently reading The Girl With a Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean, and it is so very excellent and so hard to put down that I have barely managed to get any writing done those past two days.

one of the most telling things about the way our society views the potential of ai is that two of the most marketed services are:

- use ai to do your work for you!
- use ai to detect if others are using ai to do their work for them!

guess what fellas? if we just did neither we wouldn't need either

Finished pass pages this morning, at the cost of giving myself a migraine 🤣 They’re not due till the 23rd but I am so keen for this book to be done and handed in, and to start working on the sf properly!

I've finally gotten permission to use my Book Eaters epilogue. Originally it was only pubbed in the Waterstones hardback special edition.

I thought about using it as a preorder incentive for the next book but I can't see anyone being that fussed about it. Would just free on the website be okay? 👀

There are a lot of horror stories about cover art in the trad space, so I just wanted to rock up and say out of the blue that the cover art Tor is commissioning for GWATF is so good that I changed details in my book to match it better. Because it’s just that pretty and just that cool.

We did a gender Conceal party for my son (then my unborn child of indeterminate gender). Got together, played games, ate cake (the reveal was a rainbow!) and admired my baby bump. And talked about how gender norms are bullshit and establishing them so firmly when a kid is in utero is Problematic.

Had a looooong chat with @sunyidean.com about what is and isn’t Gothic but something just occurred to me. Is gothic always necessarily horror? Defacto I think ‘gothic horror’ but would love to be shown otherwise

Kind of floored that gender reveals are still a thing, and in fact seem bigger than ever.

Like it’s your life so have one if you want, but they’re low key fucking weird as a concept
