Lost my phone for a day and a half, and I’m devastated to report that I rewrote two ms chapters and read 3 books as a result 😩

What a better way to start a Monday than with the second part of "A Jam's list to 2026 releases"?

Second part of my most awaited titles for 2026 and that I hope to cover in the blog (depending on review copies and all):

She looks great, but this social double standard drives me insane. No one would bat an eyelid if she were a man.

And no one is expecting my partner to wear makeup when we get hitched, but loads of people keep baiting death by telling me I’ll look “tired and sick” if I don’t learn to facepaint.

Fancy hotel gyms are a nice treat, but I love my small home one the best. Can’t go into a public gym in my pjs with a cup of tea/coffee, and put on Star Trek.

The Christmas Bonus no one asked for: the epilogue to The Book Eaters, originally found in the Waterstones Special Edition. It’s taken quite a long time to get this sorted, sorry! Freeing up formerly exclusive content isn’t always straightforward 🤓

When watching Pluribus, I keep thinking of this fantastic parable by Anthony De Mello, a Hindu Jesuit priest who died in 2005.

One of my quiet fears for GWATF is that it sits in this uncomfortable place between current reader groups. There is no spice/romance to catch Romantasy, no true magic to catch the “magic system” readers, and not enough historical content to be true hist fic.

It’s also slow, and second person.

Years of reading about heroines who hate stitching has left me unprepared for how much I enjoy embroidery. It’s such a chill, cathartic little hobby, so different from the martial arts that eats my free time, while still being incredibly grounding. And you get something beautiful at the end of it.

So happy of receiving an ARC of one of my most awaited releases of 2026: thanks to @sunyidean.com for this gorgeous copy of The Girl with a Thousand Faces. The Book Eaters already was one of my fav books, and I'm sure this will end in a similar spot.

Oh blimey, this book. Like the mad offspring of Iain Banks and Lucy Rose. Grisly, weird Sussex-set body horror. @toddsjordan.bsky.social is one of the most exciting new voices in the genre I've come across in a while. You're going to love this one.

I'm insanely excited that @toddsjordan.bsky.social news is finally public 🙂 THE FLESH I WANT is so, so, so good. Stunning literary voice and creeping, suffocating horror in the heart of 90s rural Britain.

This is annoying me so much. I cannot believe the BBC is making me defend James Daunt, but this article title is some absolute clickbait bullshit.

"As a bookseller, we sell what publishers publish, but I can say that instinctively that is something that we would recoil [from]," he said.
