She looks great, but this social double standard drives me insane. No one would bat an eyelid if she were a man.

And no one is expecting my partner to wear makeup when we get hitched, but loads of people keep baiting death by telling me I’ll look “tired and sick” if I don’t learn to facepaint.

When watching Pluribus, I keep thinking of this fantastic parable by Anthony De Mello, a Hindu Jesuit priest who died in 2005.
THE NARROW PATH God warned the people of an earthquake that would swallow all the waters of the land. The water that would take their place would make everyone crazy. Only the prophet took God seriously. He carried huge jugs of water to his mountain cave so that he had enough till the day he died. Sure enough, the earthquake came and the water vanished and new water filled the streams and lakes and rivers and ponds. A few months later the prophet came down to the plains to see what had happened. Everyone had indeed gone mad. They and would have nothing to do with him and were convinced that he was insane. So the prophet went back to his mountain cave, glad for the water he had saved. But as time went by he found his loneliness unbearable. He yearned for human company, so he went down to the planes again. Again he was rejected by the people for he was so entirely different from them. The prophet then took his decision. He threw away the water he had saved, drank the new water and joined his fellow men in their madness. When you seek for Truth you walk alone. The path is too narrow for company. One of my quiet fears for GWATF is that it sits in this uncomfortable place between current reader groups. There is no spice/romance to catch Romantasy, no true magic to catch the “magic system” readers, and not enough historical content to be true hist fic.

It’s also slow, and second person.

Years of reading about heroines who hate stitching has left me unprepared for how much I enjoy embroidery. It’s such a chill, cathartic little hobby, so different from the martial arts that eats my free time, while still being incredibly grounding. And you get something beautiful at the end of it.

This is annoying me so much. I cannot believe the BBC is making me defend James Daunt, but this article title is some absolute clickbait bullshit.

We would sell books by Al, says Waterstones boss PA Waterstones would stock books created using artificial intelligence, the company's boss has said, as long as they were clearly labelled, and if customers wanted them. However, James Daunt, a veteran of the bookselling industry, said he personally did not expect that to happen. "There's a huge proliferation of Al generated content and most of it are not books that we should be selling," he said. But it would be "up to the reader" In a wide-ranging interview with the BBC's Big Boss Interview podcast, Daunt said while Waterstones uses Al for logistics they currently try to keep Al generated content out of the shops. "As a bookseller, we sell what publishers publish, but I can say that instinctively that is something that we would recoil [from]," he said. "Who's to know? [Technology firms] are spending trillions and trillions on Al and maybe it's going to produce the next War and Peace. "And if people want to read that book, Al-generated or not, we will be selling it - as long as it doesn't pretend to [be] something that it isn't. "We as booksellers would certainly naturally and instinctively disdain it," Daunt said. Readers value a connection with the author "that does require a real person" he added. Any Al-generated book would always be clearly labelled as such.
