Posts on recreating old computers, dogs, renovating my house, trans stuff, the usual.
In the name of science, we're performing our annual experiment to figure out how much whisky one Christmas pudding can sustain. This year, we've advanced from last year's benchmark of 150ml to 160. Maggy Fulton recommends 90ml, but with double the fruit. Cowardice!

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

So the biggest advantage of LPs is that I've never once chucked my iPad across the room trying to play an LP on my telly using airplay.

Looking at original unmolested gameboys on eBay. @iknowthezarbi.bsky.social apparently wants to stage an intervention at this point. Apparently we have "real shit" we need ahead of vintage hand held consoles.

Is this even fair?

Just bought a tetris cart for my gameboy advance. Now I know why I'm short sighted. Playing this shit 16 hours a day as a nineteen year old really fucked with my eyes!

Mum, I really think you shouldn't go lower than f/4, as dog's feeling very fuzzy.

When I started my engineering degree in Sydney, @iknowthezarbi.bsky.social stayed in Canberra working for six months. I took the train to Canberra every other Friday afternoon, returning Monday for class, and he alternated. It was really wonderful.

You can travel between Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne for as little as $10 on affordable bus Flix – but at what cost?
European budget travel brand FlixBus promises low prices and a better experience. Will it be enough to get Australians off planes and out of their cars?

Just hit total nerd nirvana. @iknowthezarbi.bsky.social bought me a stand for cook books. I can use it to hold my iPad running a gameboy emulator, playing Tetris using a bluetooth controller while listening to Mike Oldfield via airplay. Oh, and drinking wine. Not sure if the wine helps my scores.

Many years ago I bought a Gameboy Advance, to replace the Gameboy that I basically wore out playing Tetris.

The screen is so awful you can barely see anything in normal lighting, so I only rarely used it.

Today I found a backlit screen that drops in without surgery!

Playing Emu Joust on my FreeBee Microbee compatible.

Excuse the lack of keyboard, and my lack of skill.

Note the use of an iPad as a tape player. I skipped the couple of minutes waiting for it to load, as I know kids these days have zero patience.

@iknowthezarbi.bsky.social really wanted to watch this one at the cinema when it was un-banned. It's the only movie I've ever walked out of the cinema on.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom has been described by film critics as ‘essential to have seen but impossible to watch’.

Tomato plant diary day #19

It looks like our little tomato plant is gonna be fine. It had a shaky start in life, but it's really enjoying it's planter and getting watered every day.

Trimming the branches at the bottom has helped heaps.

Max is taking his tomato guarding duties very seriously.

Max and Sandy say the dog park at Aveley is awesome. It's got sniffs, and grass, and bits for digging, and sticks, and heaps of yummy water, and play equipment!

CSIRO 350 job cuts a damning indictment on Government priorities, misses 'golden opportunity' on research
The announcement this week that CSIRO are to cut 350 research jobs is another damning indictment on Australia’s ongoing failure to prioritise research and development.

If you're old like me, and Australian like me, you'll remember Microbee computers. Here's my latest Freebee, a Microbee compatible that runs all Microbee software, uses no PLDs, and is completely open-source.

Plus it's smol, on account of chopping the keyboard off.
