A sentient swamp is here to chill you out with original nature videos, field recordings, and photography.

There might also be some absurdist dark humor thrown in, as one should expect from a swamp.

Has the swamp ever actually talked about hermit thrushes? It seems not. So many videos with hermit thrushes and no written notes! What happened there? ⬇️

Wow it’s been a long winter. Can’t watch this without laughing.

New Englanders: “I get it!”
Californians: “What’s so funny?”

NO IDEA.

Seeking opinions: Which is a more stereotypical, Hollywood film-style cricket sound? Spring/fall field cricket or snowy tree cricket? Thank you.

Samples if you need them:

The swamp is not dead, see? NOT. DEAD. Extremely full of life, full of warmth, 77 degrees. (Pay no attention to the rotting corpse smell.)

These are warm. Texting catbird now - pay no attention to the week's forecast, it's just been hacked. Time to migrate, hurry up now before someone takes your spot. #skunkcabbage #springishere

Ok so the swamp’s out-of-range carolina wren has been silent for 2 weeks now. Is it reasonable to start worrying?

If the swamp hits 10,000 followers somewhere, it will invest in a better telephoto lens.

In the meantime, please enjoy a grainy photo of a red-cockaded, head not hidden behind a branch. Fortunately, the bird's audio came out nicely.

The swamp has found the one bird it's been searching for in these gator-infested wetlands.

Attempting to convince the catbird to come home right now this instant, the first question he asks, "Aren't you still cold and dead?"

Utter discrimination.

The lovely thing about snow is how it helps keep traces of those who passed by before…
Context clues and knowledge of the nature neighbours lead me to believe that these are snow bunting and mink prints.
We saw the snow buntings lift off, found prints soon after. Saw no mink but we’ve plenty here.

Pine witch's broom, a deformity of conifers caused by a parasitic phytoplasma. People find it unsightly and perceive it as a terrible disease, but rarely does it cause major harm. It is of ecological importance, serving as an ideal nesting site for many species of birds and mammals. #trees #nature

A reminder to everyone to please send your favorite SwampVid to your least favorite elected official, in the hopes of encouraging them to stop trying to burn the planet down. Thank you.

A baby roughskin newt on moss; an old photo. One of many moved off the road over the years, as they migrate from natal ponds to the winter forest to forage. Somewhere I have a video of this little one's climb from my hand up the rock to this summit.

The anhinga, species name, Anhinga anhinga....anhinga... anhinga anhinga anhinga? It's a swamp bird that's confusing for out-of-towners to spell, all right? They don't have nostrils, which makes it easier to not drown when diving underwater for fish. #birds #anhinga #wildlife

Internet: It’s time to stop perpetuating the tiresome falsehood that dandelions are the earliest source of pollen. Go outside.

Look at what this old phone that's mostly an error message and has been soaked a few countless times can still do.

Don’t worry, the swamp wasn’t sold off in favor of a megaswamp, it’s just dead.
