I still remember the phone numbers to my parents' house, both sets of my grandparents, my great-grandmother, my best friend in high school, and my college roommate.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I love how all the advanced analytics guys (who I do agree with about 75% of the time) will scream and holler about how hitting for a high batting average is overrated but then will turn right around and cite batting averages when comparing hitters.
