If you haven't read any of the old #Conan books then you are really missing out on some foundational Sword and Sorcery stories written by Robert E. Howard.

Many great authors have read REH's works, including but not limited to:

George R. R. Martin
Robert Jordan
Stephen King

They misspelled cheque.

This is just another reason why spelling it check is clearly wrong.

Here's a way you can market it a bit more.

Don't forget to tell the author about free blogs like Arcane Tomes.

Have you tried submitting your book to blogs that promote fantasy books for free?

Eg. Arcane Tomes

I want to see a sequel to the film "Battleship", but they are fighting ghost pirates instead of aliens.

It could even be a crossover with Ghostbusters. I don't care how they do it, I want it!!!

Do you have previous books?

Which one has the most reviews or ratings?

Audiobooks can help get you back in the mood.

Ebooks = Too much eye strain and your hand will cramp from holding your phone or tablet for hours.

Hardcovers = Too much heavy lifting.

What you need is a small novella, short novel, anthology or literary magazine.

Hobbit-sized. Not heavy or long.

Dear Fantasy Authors:

Do you accept snail mail from fans?

Once upon a time that was a thing. Fans would lick a stamp, apply it to an envelope, and mail a letter to their favourite author.

And if they were really lucky, the author would respond.

We don't seem to do that any more.

Do you know why female fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs are so easy to please?

Because they are used to disappointment. 😉

So the next time you are thinking an author is charging too much for their book, think again.
swordandsorcery.bsky.social
Part of the problem is how Amazon does their math. They take their share first, and the printing costs come out of the author's share.

If they deducted the printing costs FIRST, then calculated the rest, author's would get a fair share.

The only way an author can make money selling their books via BNM bookstores is to jack the prices up.

($25 × 40%) - $8 = $2 for the author.

So... peanuts. Just awful.

The same $25 book sold via Amazon would get them a royalty of $7.

Amazon Print Royalties Explained

Pretend you're an author: It costs $8 to print your book, you sell them for $20 each.

Amazon takes 40%.

The author gets 60%, minus the printing costs.

($20 × 60%) - $8 = $4 for the author.

If sold via a BNM bookstore...

($20 × 40%) - $8 = $0 for the author.

The problem with indie bookstores is that many of them only sell books by trad authors.

If you order an indie book via any bricks-n-mortar bookstore the author gets paid a smaller royalty, because they get a smaller piece of the pie since the bookstore takes their share out of the author's share.
