#AwesomeCharacters

Mana & Mori's main thing they bicker about is her tendency to want to do hero shit. He wants her to be selfish (with him).

It's a bit ambiguous because isn't hero shit the right thing?

This isn't something to be resolved but reined in reasonably. He usually helps with it. 😮‍💨
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Let's talk about conflict!

What is something your character and the person closest to them fight about?

Is one side clearly in the right, or is it ambiguous?

How do they resolve their dispute? Or do they?

I'm complicated when it comes to romance. Irl, I call myself grey-aro and fictosexual, though even that's grey to a large degree.

In other words, I could be romance/sex-averse for a week, then be the horniest bitch on main for another week, then bam, don't talk to me about it for a whole month.

It’s that time of year, so I will ask:
How do you treat Romance?
Is it the main genre of your writing or is it something that occurs while other things are going on?
Or do you not have any at all in your writing?

#FantasyIndiesFebruary 11. Heartbreak in WIP?

It isn't traditional romantic heartbreak because someone messed up, but Call suffers it when she is forced to let Azrael go because of his duty. The separation is what breeds the hurt. She is also heartbroken that her mother has lied to her all her life

This is absolutely INFURIATING because it is so relentless, and yet it's still... it's still KIND of funny because honestly who is out there trying to get money from WRITERS, that's like holding a cup underneath a Bigmouth Billy Bass and hoping for caviar to come out
The book club scam has taken an exciting new leap forward. I got one today from a "curated literary platform and newsletter" that, unusually, offered a link to its website. I'm in edits, so obviously I took the opportunity to procrastinate. /1

Day 11 of #FantasyIndiesFebruary

In the 7 books I've written so far in my Oracle of Delphi series WIP, there is a lot of heartbreak. Deaths, injuries, and betrayals are common. But in the later books, there is also the loss of independence as Greece was subjugated by Rome.

Does free will exist?

Yes it does. Fairies have a path, but they are free to do as they will. The Goddess, or others acting as her proxy will nudge them back in the right direction, but the choice is still theirs.
Horse. Water. That type of thing.

Heartbreak in WIP

There are two very heartbreaking scenes in the Rose book. One is because we know it's a lie, but Rose doesn't, so it's all in her reaction to that lie.
And the other.... Well it is a hero's journey.... And not all heros get to the end.

I don't write zombie stories, but will sometimes read them or watch shows/movies centered on them. Zombies to me are a metaphor for dementia: the person becomes a shambling husk. I've cared for dementia patients. It's terrifying. I can't write about it yet. #HorrorWritersChat
Q2.
This question is not about the comfortable places that we go with horror. But the uncomfortable ones. The ones that turn us inside out even as we write them. The ones that make us wonder who we are, at the end. #HorrorWritersChat

This sparked an interesting question about Romance as subgenre!

Romance, Romantasy, & Romantic Fantasy readers & writers--what would you require of a story for it to say Romance was its subgenre? Would it be beholden to HEA/HFN & how much of the story would it have to be?

#ThisOne'sFortheWriters

Late answering this one, but for me it really depends on the book!

I'm someone who likes all the different elements of a story to really weave together.

I've never written a capital "R" Romance (which guarantees an HEA or HFN and I guarantee nothing with my work), but

First: a rant. Sean, I tackled you on your rant day, so feel free to tackle me now.

Also, Emily, this isn't an attack on you. I know what you meant by your wording, but I still gotta say it

NOVEL WRITING DOENS'T REQUIRE POWER BALANCE
THIS ISN'T AN RPG
YOU CAN WRITE OP CHARACTERS
#Febchantment Day 11

What limitations did you put on your magic system to keep it from becoming too OP? Is power in short supply? Do spells take a physical toll on the body?

Note that this is about magic done RIGHT. Day 13 will be about when magic goes horribly wrong!

Is this my beautiful house? Is this my beautiful life?
Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

Both are terrifying. Both are full of strange creatures. Both are instant death to anyone unprotected. Both are absolutely dark and cold.

Can't choose.
TTRPG Players, Writers, worldbuilders! A question for you all, one I hear posed often IRL but not often in terms of fantasy worldbuilding.

What's scarier in your world; the deep oceans or deep space? Why?
