#FebruaryWorldbuilders It's universally understood that the universe (haha) was sung into existence. By whom tends to vary. (1/5)
#FebruaryWorldbuilders Is the origin of your world known? Is there a creation story? If you have nonphysical realms, were they also created at this time, or did they come about through some other means? What do your characters believe? Does the world's religion have any thoughts?

Most of my OCs are inspired by a mix of other fictional characters.

My most recent MC, Vildrik Arvaldi, is a bit of an oddball. He combines Temenos’ sassy determination, Doofenschmirtz’s eccentricity, & Ratchet’s technical genius into a strangely endearing heroic package.

I'm not into ballad-type songs. Looking at my Spotify, I have to scroll pretty far to find anything that might be called a "love song."

"I Know You're Out There Somewhere" - The Moody Blues
"Something to Talk About" - Bonnie Raitt
"Burning for You" - Blue Oyster Cult

Because few humans have much power, it would take a concerted effort to misuse magic on a scale that can do actual harm. And the gods are ostensibly beyond reproach. It's the ninatat you have to worry about. More powerful than humans and not always with good intentions.

The world was literally formed by Tithendion, who then also created Durandios--Life Incarnate--to bring life to the creations. While this belief is central to AElit, there is a larger world with other beliefs. Yet the gods of AElit do exist.

A bitter lady with a dark past.

A grieving widow striving to help those in need.

Two women will discover it’s not too late for a second chance at romance…

Because You Asked is a steamy, sapphic romance that is part of The Serrulata Saga but can be read as a standalone.

I finished the rewrite of book 1 in The Mage War Chronicles yesterday! Will start looking at book 2 soon... I may take today off, but I'm not sure if my brain will let me 😅

Intro
I'm AJ. I write various fantasy books (mostly epic, some urban, some cozy) and occasionally sci-fi.

This month I'll be focusing mostly on Serpentus because
1) it's in #SPFBO (which officially starts today and
2) Serpentus will celebrate a birthday this month!

#SFFChat Q1 I've written whole essays on this topic, but I'll keep it short here😂

The Aloutians believe "Love is free and infinite"

They don't do marriage or monogamy... unless they're Olivians, because Olivians are biologically wired to be monogamous, lol.
#SFFChat Q1: How are romantic/sexual/marital relationships treated in your world?

E.g. How are relationships outside marriage treated? Does marriage exist and what does marriage mean in your world? If you write in a contemporary setting, what's your MC's approach to relationships?

"...I shouldn’t assume I know who you are now.”

Dahlia giggled, “It feels nice. It feels like putting on my favorite sweater.”

“Yeah. That’s a good way to put it. So.” Rose paused and looked away for a moment. “So, can we do this?”

“Do what?” Dahlia asked.

#SFFChat QI: In the Sands of Hazzan series it's messy & complicated (much like real life)! Marriage is both sacred & a fundamentally legal institution in Qemassen, which is somewhat in contrast to other places in the world, where it's basically just legal.

In the past polygyny existed, but

#FantasyIndiesFebruary 12. Comfort reads

I don't comfort reread books too often, I usually choose to read something new. But the Earthsea books and Douglas Adams' books are ones I'll go back to from time to time.

#AwesomeCharacters
They tend to develop organically over time, I start with a character concept (Conan but wizard, swordsman with spectral arm, very tired guard who keeps getting promotions) and a personality will generally emerge from that and/or their situations.

Where do you get inspiration for your characters personality?

Yourself? Fictional characters? People you know or celebrities? It just comes to you?

Has someone you've met ever reminded you of your character?

You want queer love and joy?!
Ashe marries the "Twin Souls" Ilia and Merci, and learns that having both a husband and a wife is a treat. Kali finally comes out, and while rejected from her home, finds love in Tatyana (another trans woman) that ends in them fusing (not-permanently) into one being.🧵

Mathias and Chana have a tangled origin.
They are modeled a little after my half brother and sister (who we share a father with).
Chana is in tribute to Chani from Dune, one of the original bad ass women I read.
Mathias is a mix of the tough but mostly good men whom I grew up around.

Souls are not only real, they're eternal, are where much of the mind resides, and are direct emanations of the spooky scary Godhead given free will so that they might be enslaved. Before the material world, they were basically just hunted and dominated forever. But then...
1/3
#FebruaryWorldbuilders. Are souls real in your world? Does anything happen to them after a person dies? Or, whether or not they know the truth, do your characters have any beliefs about that? Does your world's religion preach anything about souls?
