#FebruaryWorldbuilders Day 12

Most Nixtralians believe the soul encompasses a person’s spiritual aspect. Upon death, a soul is guided to the Ring of Fate, a limbo-like plane between the mortal & spirit realms.

It’s there where a soul is judged to go to either Finyt or Nulyma.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders. Are souls real in your world? Does anything happen to them after a person dies? Or, whether or not they know the truth, do your characters have any beliefs about that? Does your world's religion preach anything about souls?

Day 12: Comfort Reads

Classic children's literature always makes me feel better. Stories from Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh are quick enough to reread if you're short on time.

Yes. Very much yes, and is a part of a very important system I intend to use at one point.

A tangent, for a moment, if you will.

The elements of decay and nature are also the elements of the spirit and the soul respectively. These are related but separate.

Since #Infernulls is more about feeling, and you get stuck with an Element, but being able to cast all four anyway, ability to control all four elements with ease is considered mastery.

Autemá and Verdá are new, no established ranks. However for Autemá, you get the nod when you reach the '2nd Plateau: Avatar', where your mastery of will is 'shining through the unique prism of your self' and you develop unique abilities influenced by you. Tatyana actually sets herself on fire. 🧵

What does it take to be considered a "master" of your magic system?

Is it about the range of your techniques? The difficulty level? The amount of knowledge in your head? Your ability not to set yourself on fire?

Or perhaps there IS no "mastery"?

Something about 8 badges (the fact that I don't actually use this is a crime).

There isn't any true definition of mastery here. For beluan, it's simply survival and/or dominance.

For humans, and therefore Travelers, it's more a notoriety thing.

Souls were a theory until Viola met Ilia, who was born with a second soul but in fear tore her out. Viola reunites him with Merci. "Twin Souls" proved souls exist, they take turns "piloting".

Kalyana (Tat + Kali) is two souls fused into a hybrid person with her own identity (capable of fissioning).

#FebruaryWorldbuilders 12: Are souls real in my world?

Souls are considered part of a person, a spiritual component that holds what is uniquely capable of good. A person without a soul must be evil. The soul does not survive death. It is what the World remembers.

What are your comfort reads?

This isn't really something I do (I very rarely reread books, and when I do, the reads usually many years apart.)

Intro
I'm AJ. I write various fantasy books (mostly epic, some urban, some cozy) and occasionally sci-fi.

This month I'll be focusing mostly on Serpentus because
1) it's in #SPFBO (which officially starts today and
2) Serpentus will celebrate a birthday this month!

Comfort? Like when I'm down? Or lonely?

My own books, to be honest. The Triempery and its characters are familiar (to me), I know what to expect, which parts to read for which feelings. A cup of coffee and I'm good to go.☕️
