"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

The short documentary “Rovina’s Choice” tells the story of what goes when aid goes.

Went to a screening a couple months ago. As a Denver Post alum, and die-hard fan of local news, it hits really hard. A must-watch if you want to understand what's happening to newspapers across the country and why local news matters so much.
The documentary "Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink," about how Hedge fund Alden Global Capital is gobbling up newspapers across America and gutting them, is available to watch on PBS.

This has always been the GOP's strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves.

2) Explode deficits

3) Use the debt as an excuse to demand cuts to vital programs that help millions.

4) Repeat.

We need the best educated workforce in the world.

We need the best teachers in the world.

We need to pay our teachers fairly for the important work they do.

No teacher in America should begin at less than $60,000 a year.

I hope folks realize our oligarchs - except for Musk, apparently - are devouring insane amounts of HGH

It is *morbidly* fascinating to see the world through Marc Andreessen’s paranoid eyes, in this Q&A

Deep inside his comments is this one

the executives at *multiple* tech firms felt they were at imminent risk of “violent riots” from their staff

I … what?

I've spent the past year obsessed with how police are using facial recognition. What I found: Police in 12 states have used these tools to find and arrest suspects when they have no other evidence, leading to wrongful arrests

🧵 what I learned from 1,000 docs & dozens of sources ->
Arrested by AI: Police ignore standards after facial recognition matches
Confident in unproven facial recognition technology, sometimes investigators skip steps; at least eight Americans have been wrongfully arrested.

I know we all have disaster fatigue, but the reason why historic LA fires get so much coverage is because there are more people in greater LA county than in *most US states*
