I AM A GAME DESIGNER!

I just got this book cause one of my close friends is learning game design too and bought it and I felt envious, I didn’t want them to get ahead. And so I’ve started my new year by reading it and it’s been getting my quite inspired. I hope I can continue chasing this feeling.

So I finished my little game demo, it was pretty cool to finish it and have other people play the game and get feedback (even though I was never going to improve it). Seeing my little psychological tricks work on people was pretty fun! I’m excited to keep making things.

it’s a time of year where people often feel isolated, alone & the shadows of the world seem closer. I’ve lost friends during this time of year, people who I know would have found the light again. just a reminder to reach out to friends, family or support organizations. just take that first step.

So ever since starting my tutorials I've been a little more "enthusiastic" about making games I guess you could say, that being said I had the terrible idea of making a whole ass LEVEL for this tutorial I did, and now I've been here making this for like a week lol.

I've become a student of "Godot University" and 1.5 videos in I'm starting to feel the motivation well back in myself a bit. It's nice to kind of just make something, even if it's alongside a tutorial, especially since the tutorial sort of encourages you to mix it up a bit. I plan on probably...

I just finished the basic Godot tutorials in the manual for both 2D and 3D. They’re very useful projects I feel, just for gaining some basic familiarity with techniques as well as familiarity with different elements of the engine. When trying to make my first project, I would frequently reference…

I haven't had the motivation lately and I think tieing myself to a project has made it difficulty for me to keep up my learning as I've wanted. So I think I will stop working on my current project and just go back to purely learning Godot and Game Dev and Coding. I'm not too upset about it, I...

I think I need to re-think the scope of my game. I’ve started to get very in the weeds into the design of some elements and its making the development process a lot more complicated than it needs to be, especially for someone who is inexperienced at organizing sw projects and at game development.

Making games is so hard when you don't know what you're doing

I have now implemented the MOST important feature into my game, opening and closing bathroom stalls:

I've just built now the very basic scraps of the overworld arcade, scene transitions, y-sort, movement, music, etc. into my game. I'm decently content with how it looks and feel myself learning well.

I’ve started to wake up early before work and do my game dev stuff in the morning, but what has happened now is if I don’t find a good spot to end I just refuse to stop working. So currently I am 30 minutes late to work today, I gotta start setting limits on myself lol.

I got the tileset established, and the player animation/movement in place, next up is collision and making extra screens :)

I spent forever looking for a free top-down 2D arcade tilesets, and I really couldn’t find anything. But in my head I always envisioned it looking Pokemon-esque, soooo I just ripped a tilemap someone made online of the Celadon Game Corner in HGSS and I think this will do the job.

I finished my first 2D Game tutorial in Godot!

I myself added the near miss mechanics cause I thought it'd make the game a little more interesting. I also adjust the hitboxes cause they were a bit unforgiving I feel.

I'm starting to get pissed off at the Problem Sets in the CS50x class I'm taking. They're starting to give us like 90% of the code, and just asking us to make some functions here and there and a lot of the time just completely disregarding what the actual lecture that given week was on. Like for...

I’ve decided to start working on my first project alongside my learning of Godot. I figure that unless I have a “homework” assignment to apply my lessons too I won’t retain much or find utility in the tutorials I do.

Just finished this GDScript intro course, I’m 3 weeks from finishing CS50x, progress is being made 😌

Before I know it I’ll have some BS on itch.io, who knows.
I’ve been doing this GDScript tutorial by GDQuest called “GDScript from zero”. It’s like an in-browser app made from Godot that teaches basics of its scripting language. I’m about done with it though and I honestly feel like I’ve barely learned anything useful or novel about GDscript. So maybe…

BREAKING: Today, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum opened all 1.56 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain to oil and gas leasing. These lands are sacred to the Gwich’in Nation, home to irreplaceable wildlife and wilderness, and have never seen industrialization.
