I think one of the biggest parts of this story is that, since they've taken power, this so-called government has literally ONLY done things that HURT it's citizens. I can guarantee you, those in charge will still make an OBSCENE amount of money AS this is all happening, maybe BECAUSE of it

Making everybody think they're alone in this "world" is one of the greatest tricks of all time. I had a pet theory that it was born out of the apparent scarcity of Northern climates but there's plenty of INDIGENOUS communities much further north that don't think/behave that way, generally.

I think it's cool when we combine things that have sustained us through generations into something new, while retaining knowledge of our past, however we can. Wherever we are.
Anyway, sweet potatoes are awesome+so is corn and so are my parents+ their parents+ their.. anyway I ♥️ y'all 🧡🖤

Of West African technique+"new world" ingredients. U can see this dynamic in parts of Africa+ across the diaspora when things like corn + potatoes+ cassava enter their diets- they often are prepared the way YAM has been for centuries, mashed, cooked + as a sort of "anchor" for a meal, a staple.

I don't think they're that alike, but I think the Cherokee one is closer to the cornmeal porridge West Indian ppl make tho obviously the NDN version is FIRST tho I think they added stuff like sugar+ milk to it before we did..cuz sugar + milk aren't from here. Dad's dish seems more a synthesis

Apparently my Dad's grandparents who once upon a time ago were sharecroppers in the south, would eat sweet potatoes like this in winter and My Dad still liked it growing up...My MOM says there's an NDN version with ground corn ( Selu-Sa? I'm spelling it wrong)+ she just mixes them together now...

This just in, apparently the cops have adopted "Queensbury rules" 🤷🏾‍♀️.... If things get violent I would most certainly NOT trust any cop to be NON-VIOLENT - They can't wait to use ALL their "toys" on ppl.

I guess in a way, it kind of make sense to have it as the centerpiece of a ritual of thanksgiving commonly presented with half- truths at best or else outright fabrications that avoid mention of the untold suffering CAUSED by colonization...devouring an intentionally grounded INDIGENOUS bird
