I mean from a HR Perspective that’s against the policy I’m sure unless they signed a letter stating they were together. Like family members can work together or spouses, but they can’t report directly to each other or be in the same management chain.

The way so many things that used to be common knowledge and common sense get debated nowadays is crazy. You give a reference that can speak to your work. There is a limit on what people can say legally. However, if you were fired for some kind of fuckery they are allowed to say that.

Yes this is true we do in some cases depending on the job sector ask for professional colleagues references.
I also have to disagree with you because as someone who works in advertising one of the things they will ask for are people you work with on accounts or projects together. When I say my friends I'm not talking about some guy off the street I'm talking about my professional colleagues

I keep saying that way too many of yall on here take that "I'm not friends with coworkers" too far and now you can't get a reference from anyone you worked with.
Last time I asked someone to be a reference we talked on the phone for 10 minutes going over which projects they should highlight.
