More info on UKRI allocations published today (more, but not full - Council-by-Council to be published in Dec).

Also note that footnote 5 confirms that the 25/26 figure isn’t comparable with 26/27 - sigh

800 papers!! @cern.bsky.social's LHC experiments are a total physics factory. There is so much to find out.
This is the 800th LHCb paper. 🎉
First evidence of CP violation in beauty baryon to charmonium decays arxiv.org/abs/2509.16103 - The difference in the CP asymmetries between Λ⁰b→J/ψpπ⁻ and Λ⁰b→J/ψKπ⁻ decays is measured to be ΔACP=(4.0±1.2±0.2)%.

This ⬇️ is such an important report. Thanks @instituteofphysics.bsky.social. Physics skills underpin our future. And physics departments, like the whole university sector in the UK, are under pressure and at risk. We can't risk our future by letting this continue.
UK physics is strong and productive, but a perfect storm of funding pressures is putting university physics departments at risk - and with them, our future in science, technology and innovation.

Our new report, Physics Matters: Funding the Foundations of Growth, reveals a stark warning. (1/2)

This is such an important report. Physics skills underpin breakthroughs and industries that make our economy grow. School is where we nurture those skills first. How can we do better than 700,000 students annually lacking access to a specialist physics teacher? Recommendations ⬇️
Despite the heroic efforts of teachers across England, over 700,000 students are navigating some of their most critical years in education without access to specialist physics teaching.

Excellent @wjbarter.bsky.social ! Read all about why this result is an important check of our understanding of matter in the universe ⬇️
Pleased to have written an article on one of the latest exciting results from LHCb - how we have discovered new differences between matter and antimatter in the decays of baryons.

theconversation.com/new-discover...
New discovery at Cern could hint at why our universe is made up of matter and not antimatter
The finding could also open the door to the discovery of new particles.
