Today’s #tea: Iribancha, a very smoky Japanese green tea. Answers the question, “well, what if we just left the leaves on until they burn?” A little lighter than Lapsang Souchong, I think. Bought it from Ippodo’s storefront in NY, which deserves a visit.

Drinking Heavenly Blue Peak (Tian Mu Qing Ding) this morning. Sweet, mild, not harshly vegetal. I believe I got it at the SF International Tea Festival.

I really like Darjeeling. I'm fascinated by the weird, tangential story of how tea leaves got up to the Himalayas. A really good Darjeeling gives me a kind of synesthesia-- I feel like I can see the taste.

I got into tea when I was in college, which was... a long time ago. How long? Well, I had one of the first web pages online about tea. I put a bunch of stuff in there about James Joyce, and how to brew tea. It was all hand-coded HTML, since it was (ahem) 1994.

So my Tea Rage podcast has been on indefinite hiatus for a disturbingly long time. It's time to bring it back. In the meantime (and between-times), I'm going to be using this account to talk about tea.
