According to USSID 18, US gov entities are not allowed to collect communication channels of US citizens without informed consent. Title 50 (which governs law enforcement) has similar, but different rules about collecting communication. Social media creates a "work around". #blockingremovesconsent

Let me remind you again that you don't need a computer to make zines. A photocopier will do. Just get yourself a zine layout and go.

You might notice that a bunch of this software is useful way beyond zine making. I believe that making zines is a brilliant project if you want to get into free/open source software - you can find what works for you, you can make zines with other people. Children can make zines.

Once you got your PDF you want to get it ready to print, as in put the pages in the right order/direction for your printer. That's called pagination or imposition, and there are LOADS of tools for that. I use bookletimposer on Linux, but I'm always delighted to hear about new ones.

Creating and manipulating images - my favourite and free software is Krita, works on all the operating systems, has a great and supportive community and produces professional print ready files. PSD compatible. It's got a focus on painting/drawing but it can do a lot more than that.

SPECTROLITE (Mac only) is a beautiful bit of software that is primarily intended to make colour separation for rising printing easy. BUT it also contains loads of zine templates and you can just throw in your PDF to make it print ready as a zine. It's lovely. spectrolite.app
