I'm impressed that it took @cs188.bsky.social that far into his career to do an "I hardly know 'er" joke in one of his YTPs. Mad props for that one.

I've said it before: for the most part, Shania Twain's ballads have never done anything at all for me. Where are the hooks in those? The interesting production? The melody? The engaging vocals?

The only one I like is "Don't!", which is actually my favorite single of hers overall. Go figure.

@farcethemusic.bsky.social was right, this is unlistenable garbage. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJXX...

Zach Top reminds me of Midland: superficially "neotraditional country" enough to sound pleasant on first listen, but lacking any semblance of character or originality with the results.

I still think "The Clark Family Experience" is in my top 5 for "best band names of all time".

They're also in my top 5 for "reasons artists shouldn't sign with Curb Records".

The holy trinity of "worst sound mixing I've heard on a country song":

"Hope You Get Lonely Tonight" by Cole Swindell
"Over You" by Miranda Lambert
"She Likes It" by Russell Dickerson and Jake Scott

I still find it fascinating that the phrase "dance like nobody's watching" has become so commonplace when it originated from a late-80s country song.

@shadowtodd.bsky.social you know what the Frank Forrest jet-ski line reminds me of?

I used to play piano at a Baptist church. They insisted on simple praise choruses and kids'/Wee Sing stuff

One of the regular songs had the word "playground" in it

I was the only member under the age of 40

Still pleased that @shadowtodd.bsky.social's "Macarena" episode mentioned the country version

A DJ came to my school in 5th grade and put it on for me because it was the only country song he had. I wanted a high quality recording, so I bought the CD about 5 years ago and ripped it to YouTube

Appropriately enough, Wade Hayes's "Don't Stop" in fact, does not stop on the word "stop" at any point

Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand deserved better. Any band capable of putting "Dream Big" and "Banjo Boy" on the same album NEEDS to be recognized for that level of depth and talent.

I still think of the one time I heard Clinton Gregory's "If It Weren't for Country Music, I'd Go Crazy" in Kroger. Easily one of the most random left-field songs I've heard in the wild.

And that includes the time the Meijer in the same town played TMBG's version of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)".

I am so out of the loop with Mariah Carey that I had never even heard "All I Want for Christmas Is You" until last year.
