Every time I hear one person yell “sea” followed by the crowd shouting back “hawks” I get very uneasy.

The sound and cadence is all to similar to the infamous German salute.

The IOC disqualified a Ukrainian athlete for showcasing photographs of Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia.

Meanwhile, Russian/Belarusian are allowed to complete under neutral status. An Italian athlete openly showed a Russian flag.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised:

In a weird way, I think Rubio did European leaders a favor.

He basically said “you’re on your own”. Now act accordingly.
⚡️Rubio skips Ukraine meeting with European leaders at Munich conference.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio skipped a Ukraine meeting at the Munich Security Conference, raising concerns among European officials amid broader transatlantic tensions, the Financial Times reported Feb. 13.

That made me laugh out loud. Because it’s so messed up and sadly not entirely hyperbole.

Oh wow. Didn’t know that either. It’s not entirely surprising, given that time and place though. Nonetheless sad.
Folks outside SF/F don't know that Asimov was a sexual harasser because while he was alive fandom thought it was cute (up to and including Asimov being invited to give a lecture on "The Power of Positive Posterior Pinching" at Worldcon, which he, wisely, declined).

We were planning on watching the Super Bowl with my wife’s aunt. She told us that they will watch the Turning Point USA halftime show.

We love her aunt but we refuse to subjugate ourselves and our kids to that so we’ll respectfully tell her we won’t come.

interesting thought:

“The West must recognize that restricting AI access in Russian-speaking markets […] clears the field for Yandex and DeepSeek. […] Today, by restricting AI access, Western tech companies are inadvertently reinforcing [the information vacuum]”
I tested Russia's AI. It knows the truth, but it's been trained to lie
When a Russian-speaking user asks Alice, Russia's most popular AI system, who started the war in Ukraine, the answer comes without hesitation: Ukraine did, backed by the West. The Bucha massacre? Stag...

People are missing the point IMHO.

It was never about the movie. Or that people watch it. It’s a way for companies to channel money to Trump. The fact that people don’t want to see it probably hurts their ego but the primary mission is still a success: legalizing the bribe.

Another ludicrous display by Moscow. Any effort in good faith would propose a neutral third party as the host.
⚡️ Russia says it's ready for Zelensky-Putin meeting — but only if Ukraine's president travels to Moscow.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Moscow is prepared to ensure President Volodymyr Zelensky's security.

Not sure how to take this. I don’t trust Fico to act in good faith. He either states the obvious to score points or Trump made demands / pushed for a direction Fico didn’t like.

Shitty headlines like this are what’s wrong with our industry.

The shortsightedness of this new breed of Republican ideology will haunt us for years to come.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funded NPR, PBS and hundreds of local radio and TV stations across the U.S. for more than a half-century, said on Monday that its board of directors had voted to dissolve the organization because Congress cut off its federal money.
