D’Angelo is one of the few musicians where I can confidently say I’ve never heard a bad word said about his music from anyone, everyone remotely into R&B adored his body of work, and studying music in Porirua meant knowing a lot of said R&B fans.

Voodoo is a 10 and my Aoty for 2000, “Africa” is the best song to listen to lying in bed on a sunny morning holding your partner.

very sad waking up to learn D’Angelo has died, one of the most significant musicians from my years studying music at tertiary. RIP

It is a criticism that is ultimately worthless because it restricts art to mere tool of The Revolution and art isn't that and The Revolution won't happen because of art.

Also there's a strain of Leftist criticism that ends up feeling like it's saying "art that doesn't tell you to do The Revolution is 1) bad, 2) immoral, 3) capitalist propaganda" as if people aren't interested in non political topics and art can be meaningless a lot of the time.

“I’m smarter than dumb pop lyrics” memes are the hottesr they’ve been since the early ‘10s, all they’re missing is the comparisons to Queen and Led Zeppelin

What I find comforting about the backlash to that album rollout is that it proves you can’t force the masses to like music on sheer force of marketing alone if a mass audience doesn’t feel included by it

Happy 10th anniversary to the worst day ever for U2 fans

Saw the thousandth post quoting a lyric clearly meant to be camp and tongue-in-cheek while trying to act smarter than it, I fear the strawman arguments I will have to push back against looking totally undignified in the process yet to come

Well I just listened to that album and surprise surprise it was like listening to a wildly different album than what all the posts of people yelling at lyric screenshots would have me believe

[Listening to the Taylor Swift album at 2.5x so I can get this review out before everyone else] I have to say, her pitch is too high on every single song. Disappointing. Incredible breath control singing that fast though

If what I heard about the content on the new album by whatsherface is accurate the internet is going to be unusable for months. Consider filtering her name and the name of the pop artist last year who released an album with a green cover

The level of embarrassment and shame me and everyone else in NZ feel about our government’s complicity with Israel is the first time it’s felt like how I’ve imagined the way US left-liberals feel about Trump and Bush

It really bugged me how people would reduce female pop stars to sex objects while thinking they were pushing back against sexual objectification, viewing them with disgust while their most passionate male fans were often gay men who viewed their sexual confidence with admiration

It was easy to mock “Love Story“ for all its “cliché” images of princes and princesses but nobody had ever textured them in such a way that it could make you feel like a great romantic story is one you can create and preserve in the very world you inhabit
