Any Savannah, GA birders here? How likely is it to get a Saltmarsh or a seaside sparrow in Savannah area around now? I will be in Atlanta this weekend and won't have a lot of time, but if those are get-able (Relatively easily) I would love to drive down quickly haha

I mentioned earlier that they chew on Nile Crocodiles - I wasn't kidding, baby Hippos use them as teething rings since the texture of their scales is satisfying to gum.

Just this 12' long razor-toothed archosaur, sitting there going "stay calm, Clarence, you survived the asteroid, you can do this."
a hippopotamus is standing in a puddle of water next to two crocodiles
Alt: A crocodile doing his best to stay calm while a baby hippo noms on him.

Just realized that some universities ask students to go through a second party transcript evaluation that costs over $190. For most international students that's a lot of money. I learned about this from a student from Nepal trying to apply. Between that, English test and application..it's over $300

One of my favorite Snowy Owl photos ever!

This was at the Sax Zim Bog in 2021. I was heading back home driving on the highway 29 south of the visitor center. Saw some people stopping next to a farm house looking at something. I couldn't tell what it was a first. Then I saw this!

First record of Red-necked Grebe from Nepal today! This rare visitor was spotted at Bulbule Lake, Surkhet, by young bird enthusiasts Sugam Guragain and Susmita Chaudhary from the Agriculture and Forestry University, Faculty of Forestry, Hetauda. What a great find

Reports suggest Evening Grosbeaks are making an early-season push, so now’s the time to watch and listen for these big, bold finches.

Tips for detecting:

• Listen for their bright, ringing “peer!” calls.
• Fill and check feeders with black oil sunflower seed especially.

Is it fair to start a GoFund me to support my adventure/exploration? Do you think I could raise money to do something like that? I have been trying to find some sponsors in Nepal, but that hasn't gotten anywhere. I do plan to publish a book out of that trip and write about biodiversity of the region

Hi! I need a suggestion. I'm planning an exploration trip in Nepal! So basically planning to walk from the Eastern part of the country to the western part, along the Himalayas. It's a part of a pilot trip where I plan to look for the best location to start a banding station in major migratory route+

So it seems like this is going to be a good year not for just the finches, but boreal species as a whole? Snowy Owls are already moving down..We've had more scoters (boreal breeding) in our area this than I've known..maybe we will get Boreal and Northern Hawk Owl as well! Who knows?
