Take a bow! The Dark-eyed Junco is our champion sparrow, with the White-crowned a close second.

Thanks everyone! I've really enjoyed your comments and seeing your preferences. #birds #Birding #sparrow
A dark-eyed junco on a bare branch in my backyard, looking to the right, with his tail fanned out. The background is a blurred out gray colour. His pink beak shows nicely against his dark gray upper body colour.

Today we are attending the Gull Summit in Inverness because gulls are in trouble and need help.

You can read more about how we can learn to live with gulls here: www.rspb.org.uk/scotland/new...

Every day after sunset during summer + fall hundreds of thousands of bats leave the their roost near Sacramento, CA to feed

A family of Swainson's hawks waits for them for their own dinner.

Due to the light they're hard to photograph.

Last night one caught a bat less than 30 feet in front of me 🪶

Not that the post-doc market was blooming anyways, but I wonder how it is going to be affect with the new H1b $100k fees? Does it apply to cap-exempt/ non profits as well? If yes, post docs are going to be affected...an average Uni might have 100s of post doc. Can they afford to sponsor $100k?

I found this birding book along the side of the road on the Tamiami trail in the Everglades on 8/25/25. It is so well loved with sightings going back decades. If you're a birder (I am not) please spread the word and hep me find the owner so they can be reunited
