if you're into AI "advisors" and find their insights helpful, may I non-ironically recommend seriously considering: tarot

- connection to your subconscious
- therapeutic or confessional as need be
- patterns of meaning
- self-determined takeaways
- no need to google facts afterwards

Current discourse reminds me of the time people on twitter were trying to "recast" Being John Malkovich to explain the movie's cultural relevance to Gen Z. My answer was Paul Dano. Respected actor, off-beat vibes, but not someone you've ever considered wanting to inhabit.

Working on writing up my review, but TL;DR: Tales of Occult Britain is great! A beautifully produced volume of short stories intended as a companion for the Hellebore Guide to Occult Britain. Read if you love @helleborezine.bsky.social, folklore, folk horror, and stories with a sense of place.

Also, it occurs to me that some of the women could have been burned *because* of perimenopause. Personally, I know there are some days when I feel possessed by demons (for justifiable reasons).
If they hadn’t burned all the witches and midwives back in the day, we’d probably know more about perimenopause and menopause right now. We know fuck all about a condition that half the population goes through because men are a bunch of plonkers*

*not all men**

**but most of them

So thrilled to see @helleborezine.bsky.social's excellent TALES OF OCCULT BRITAIN getting a deservedly excellent review in SFX magazine, and basically blown away by this shout-out. Yes, folklore is anti-fascist, yes, RE-ENCHANTMENT IS RESISTANCE, yes, yes, yes ✨

Worked with a couple of high school girls yesterday. One of them made a Gilmore Girls reference and the other immediately got the reference. Good to see at least some of my pop culture knowledge is still relevant with The Youths.

This is true. I've done it successfully a couple of times by messaging someone on Insta like "hey we live in the same town and like similar stuff, let's hang out maybe"

(Caveat: so far there's been a mutual friend or connection involved. Idk how cold-DMing would be received)
you know how when you were a little kid you could go up to people and be like, “you, girl with the pink ponytail, do you want to be friends?” and then you were friends?

you can also do that as a grownup; they don’t want you to know this, but people hardly ever say no

Been trying to track down some of the music from Lamb, and I have not been able to find the song from Uncle Petur's band that they dance to (although I managed to find the band -- Hatari).

Meanwhile, this is the source of the pretty piano piece Maria kept playing

Happy to be revisiting An Angel for Satan for tonight's #horrorwatch
An Angel for Satan (1966) is a great little Italian gothic flick, starring Barbara Steele (of Black Sunday fame). The dubbing and some of the dialogue is kind of terrible, but the cinematography is gorgeous and the story is fascinating

As the world becomes more insane (derogatory), I will lean more into being insane (complimentary).

Why should I give a fuck when nobody else seems to?

Heads up! I've had to change tomorrow's #FolkHorrorFriday programming to LAMB, which is also great!
Tubi seems to have removed The Blackcoat's Daughter, so tomorrow we will be watching LAMB (2021) instead. I'm so bummed! We were all looking forward to some Oz Perkins goodness.

But LAMB will also be an interesting one to talk about for #FolkHorrorFriday

people, you have the chance to put my book ahead of Olivia Nuzzi’s on the bestseller list. put aside all other considerations and think how objectively funny this would be. #1, that Mountain Goats guy. #2, Antivax Man Has My Heart. funniest list of the century. We can do this if we try
