I can’t respond on the post but afaik it’s mostly a visual reference, but there is an implication that the butterfly may have been human at one point. Moonlight Butterfly is a creation of Seath, who experiments on people, and the boss in Darkroot does drop a humanity.
I always assumed it was just a visual reference but now I wanna know. @thelorehunter.bsky.social any insight?

Read through Dungeon Crawler Carl and I absolutely loved it. It doesn’t feel like it should work at all, but it managed to build an incredible world, make me laugh, and pull my heart strings - all while throwing utterly ridiculous shit at you the whole time.
