Really interesting paper on gender disparities in autism coverage in British newspapers.

Grim finding: a significant subset of the "autistic girls" articles were about gender transition and misgendered those involved. Which also means there's *even less* coverage of autistic girls than it appears.

New research showing how far we have to go, in the media. They looked at UK newspapers to see how often they mention e.g. autistic girl, boy, mum, dad etc. No. of times the Press mentioned autistic grandmothers?

None.

Articles on autism are usually negative, and specifically, are sh***y in depictions of autistic people.

So, "Autistic people should be involved in guiding newspapers to more inclusive coverage, & it is crucial that newspapers respect the community's language preferences."

Interesting paper (open access) looking in detail at autistic representation - including the differences between how boys and girls (or mothers/fathers) are portrayed (eg girls more likely to be shown as part of a group, not an individual, and mainly in discussing gender difference).
