There, somewhere in the chasm left by the years, you found me. Brushing past every single sign that warned that it may not be fruitful to continue-dangerous, even —and did so smiling. How can someone with a life like yours find strength to smile? We are both fortified in our ways and yet in this specific place I feel weaker. Even in that weakness, there is strength now, because of you and your insistence that it is no such thing even if it aches. Again, somehow, with a smile. So, I come to you willingly-even now I ask for this ache. I put myself before the doors of your room that isn't yours at all and knock. A stuttering of my lungs as they struggle in a way I'm not practiced in fills my attention for just a moment before it is again ripped away to you. There is no reality in which I do not look to any noise you make. "Hey," you say, mouth quirked up along with a brow as if the very act of greeting me is delightful, "You okay?" I do not know how to answer this question. I have never known how to answer it even in the years long before you. Am I okay? I am alive, I am breathing, and I am free. That suffices. "Yes," I reply, "I-" The words feel stuck and your hand pushes the door open further in an invitation I'm glad need not be explained. How does one go about bleeding like this before another? We are healers both in kind, though you would never wish to be referred as such. You are regardless. It is a fact that would be true even if you had no means of magicks in your veins. You could do nothing but hold someone and things in them would heal. I know it well. I've got stitches on the inside from the other morning when we laid in bed longer than it was likely appropriate for something defined as casual. I am learning, quickly and ungracefully, that you are quite the liar in that regard. Perhaps you once were capable of being casual with another, but that has found itself gone and I am here in its place. So, I come to you willingly. I stand, eyes struggling to stay on any one thing until yours meet mine. It makes me pull in another breath to steady and you mirror me. I wonder often if you realize that about yourself-the ways in which you mirror so unintentionally-and if it is merely a habit of necessity from your profession. Even if it is, I am grateful for it. "It was too quiet," I finally say, truth on my tongue still bitter from years of being treated as if it were a poison I could be fed with if not careful. You blink, undeterred, and move toward the bed. "If we could just talk—" "Do you want to stay the night?" you ask, attention turned to a bed you now turn down half-heartedly before looking over your shoulder for my answer. "I will admit I was a bit sad to see you go to your room earlier, but people need space and time alone." "And do you need that?" You smile. I ache. "Tonight? No, I don't need that." "Well, if it's beneficial to us both—" You straighten up with a shake of your head and I feel everything in me freeze. I know what I look like. Eyes wide as an animal caught before certain death in the middle of a path as a hunter has found it the moment it tried to leave its shadow of safety. This brings a look on your face I'm becoming all too familiar with and would like to see done away with. Where your eyes widen in kind, glossy with recognition that even if we both know you won't, my body is prepared for you to harm me. "No, Loifa," you say quieter than before. I tuck the sound of my name in your mouth into the space in my mind where all the other times you've said it are kept. "This is not because it's beneficial to us. This is because I want you here. You. Specifically. And perhaps I'm so full of myself to say so, but I imagine you wouldn't be here if I wasn't here." You tilt your head as if you're appraising art. I fight the urge to cross my arms as you continue but cannot find the ability to deny you the view. This is becoming commonplace. "Let's go to bed. You and me." "Specifically," I say and you smile wider to show teeth. I come to you willingly-even now I ask for this ache. How fortunate is it that you soothe it without request? I haven't the mind to know the answer as your legs weave with mine. Nothing can conjure to light the overburnt wick of my thoughts to burn with a smoking crackle through the night. Nothing at all.

Something about the quiet of it all filled his chest; awe perhaps, or melancholy, and a wild impulse compelled him to slip his right hand out from the confines of its glove and stretch it out towards the dark. He winced as the cold bit instantly, and pain flared around the tender ring of scabs that had yet to harden around his wrist. The snow turned the pain into numbness, the tips of his fingers rapidly losing sensation. It was far from pleasant, he acknowledged, but it was different, and if that made things even just a little bit better… A pair of feet ascended the stairs from behind him, the heavy thudding of sollerets against stone, and Moro'a had neither the time nor inclination to conceal what he was doing as he turned around to see Haurchefant.

Realized how annoyed Orion is (quietly) about the ease of transfer from the ninth shard to the source in DT like it’s horrific what it’s done to the land and people but there is a tiny little bite in his head like “imagine if Granson could’ve just walked out imagine”
