The very different feelings they each have about their respective heritage has remained a point of conflict in their fledgling relationship, but hunts like this are such an important part of B'alith's upbringing. He'd really want to try and help Koana create some better memories, if he can.

He turned his attention to the flow of bodies starting to stream out from the arrivals area, scanning the crowd for a familiar pair of red-brown ears and the tip of a pointed metal staff, feeling the now-familiar flutter in the pit of his stomach as anticipation for their reunion began to settle in.

A familiar ripple of aether brushed across his skin and made the fur at the base of his tail bristle, that unmistakable crackle of restrained power surrounding those who walked the path of the black even when they were at rest, and his breath caught in his throat as a piece of his heart walked through the gate.

There were others in his life who were more rooted to their sense of place like Koana was, tied to the land and the people they served by oaths both magical and mundane, but they did not share his particular sensitivity towards feeling like he was being abandoned. Summary: The Warrior of Light's been away from Eorzea for too long. His husband has some rather strong feelings on the matter upon his return.

“I have to say, this was not quite the welcome reception I expected,” B’alith gasped when they finally came up for air again. “Is this what it’s like to be on the receiving end of such a demanding lover? Gods, it’s a miracle you put up with me at all.”

Zhai’a’s derisive huff was softened by the way he could not quite keep the corners of his mouth from twitching into an affectionate smile. “It does have some benefits.”

They handle it by writing letters (B'alith's not big on linkpearls), and keeping themselves busy with their own commitments and their other partners. When they *do* get time together, they try and make the most of it. Zhai'a in particular is very "if you need us for anything, no you don't" about it.

All of B'alith's current relationships are long-distance at least some of the time. It's a natural side effect of them all being pretty spread out, and the fact that he doesn't live with any of them full-time.

I write because I love writing. I love writing even when I'm struggling with a writing problem that is killing me. Finding a way through that problem is both intensely rewarding and also helps me become a better writer. There is no reason for me to ever outsource that.

Arina woke with a rattling gasp fit for the halls of a haunted tomb, and the sound climbed Thancred's spine with frigid fingers.

"Good morning," he said flatly, though it was neither good nor the morning, and he watched her shakily prop herself up on her elbow and slowly sit. The blanket fell forward, exposing the bloodied mess of her clothing—a woven green top without sleeves, stained beyond rescue.

She turned to face him.

Her eyes were dark and sunken, heavy little bruises forming beneath them. She looked utterly terrible—gaunt, exhausted, bloodless—and it struck him just how much she looked the same as he did on the rare occasions he allowed himself to meet his own eye in the mirror.

Saw a question about min-height characters, and while it doesn’t apply to any of my FFXIV OCs, it *does* have me thinking about my old WoW main again. Andorra was very short for a draenei, but she still towered over all her Azerothian peers and she thought this was AMAZING. 😄
