WIP Wednesday! One of the plants on my Flora of Middle Earth piece is ranalinque, which Tolkien actually drew. I wasn’t sure which real-world plant he was inspired by (typically he did reference existing plants when he wrote) so I just winged it and followed his art for my own version.

I'd never even heard of these books until a couple years ago! That's probably for the best because I would have been DEEPLY obsessive about them had I known of their existence as a child/preteen. 😂

Some headcanons about a few of the regional variations on masala chai in the FFXIV universe that nobody asked for, because I'm thinking about it again:

Ul'dah: very ginger-forward, not as sweet as the others; nondairy milks are more common

Radz-at-Han: heavier on cardamom, sweetened with palm sugar

Ishgard: almost entirely cinnamon, milk of choice is usually heavy cream

Garlemald: leans more toward black pepper; honey and condensed milk are the preferred additions

Kugane: a version with dried persimmon has become popular in recent years

Old Sharlayan: Starbucks chai [derogatory]
