I argued about this a lot last night, but how the hell do you drop 150+ mil on a Tron Movie? We had the technology to do this super slick in 2010. I simply cannot believe that they couldn't deliver just as stylish, just as cool a movie in for 50-60 mil+ marketing.

Being about to speak at length isn't the same as saying anything meaningful...

Hit me with your thoughts, I'm really hoping this is for the users

Things, and I don't think anyone can make the argument that Tron didn't have a profound impact on the aesthetics of science fiction
thenightlibrary.bsky.social
Tron at very minimum defined an aesthetic that is so iconic it has lasted for decades and become a dominant visual reference for dozens of media properties. I don't know that the plots of these movies have ever held water, or if the performances were ever more than average, successful art changes...

I mean, I'm pretty sure the Tron light cycle is like a built in animation for some games software now, it's such a defining cultural artifact. Like the concept of Tracer from Overwatch (old reference I know) was basically: what if a light cycle was a cute woman with guns?

I don't think you could make a Tron movie for 7 mil, but I think you could absolutely make a really compelling movie for somewhere in the 30-40 mil range that uses its glossy, hyper stylized aesthetic more precisely to build a world that far richer than what you get with a 100+ mil movie

Horror should absolutely be the genre sci-fi films are trying to emulate -- not marvel type event movies.

Look what Leigh Whannell and Blumhouse did with Invisible Man -- 7 million bucks, equally weird lead, and that movie did bonkers because it's effects are precise and it's story was compelling

Why you need to spend 100mil to make some glowy obelisks look ominous?
thenightlibrary.bsky.social
Tron is stylish and niche, always has been. What confuses me about it, is that I don't think you really need a crazy budget to make these movies anymore. Like, the visuals are hyper stylized, but Tron has never been hyper realistic -- it's gloss is fully part of its appeal. I just don't know...

I hear you, but as a librarian, people can be extremely credulous when they trust a source. My career has, for the last two decades, been about reckoning with people's information literacy and helping them get the tools they need to be more informed

End line Ultimate years were weird. JJJ having a crisis of conscience as Peter fights ceaselessly to save the city -- peak comics.

Quicksilver remembering that speedsters are terrifying and he needs a foil ever crossover otherwise he could just win -- love it.

Religious zealot Magneto???

They had multiple years of comics about how this is as bad a fight for Wolverine as he can possibly get.

Like, the dude got his ass kicked so hard he lost his nose!
An unfortunate image of the X-Men character Wolverine during his bone claw era, which also led to a redesign that made his nose itty-bitty

I love this and as an amateur game designer myself, I'd love to chat with you about your development process!

Legacy was such a compelling story and had such powerful visuals that it covered a multitude of story and acting sins. Still one of my favorite movies and a defining soundtrack.

While allowing folks who actively spew hate to run wild on the platform... Well, come on. I don't think they are in the business of making a positive community. They grew fast, got a big head, and now we'll see how it shakes out as people use their sand box to make something better

So, if Jay basically took a stand to say "hey, free speech is hard and messy, we give you the tools to moderate to your standards," and the study by that position you could point problems with that position, but you could at least admire the conviction. However, the fact that they suppress some...

Yes, though it is darkly amusing that the whole decentralized, federated potential of BlueSky is being activated in large part due to their leadership becoming rapidly untethered from their user base.

New Vegas, overall, though I think each game has its merits.

...they feel like it's unfair that Blacksky folks are making tubes that aren't for them.

This is a trend in American culture. When people of color build safe spaces for themselves, white folks have a tendency to sneak in and either destroy or try to co-opt. See Black Wallstreet/Tulsa

So think of Bluesky as a system of tubes...

Someone built a similar place using some of the Bluesky tubes and some of their own.

This bunch of tubes is basically promising to have a safer environment for black folks. This is important due to the recent Jay fiasco. People are upset because...
