MA has a problematic history of electing Republicans governors. We don’t need to make that more common, as the “all-party primary” ballot question would do.

MA has a problematic history of electing Republicans governors. We don’t need to make that more common, as the “all-party primary” ballot question would do. How? MA is often a 62% Democratic - 38% Republican state. Let’s say that 5 Democrats run and 2 Republicans run. Possible outcome: 20% Republican 1 18% Republican 2 17% Democrat 1 15% Democrat 2 12% Democrat 3 10% Democrat 4 8% Democrat 5 In an all-party primary, the two Republicans advance, even though a solid majority voted for a Democrat. In our current system, Republican 1 and Democrat 1 face off. In a ranked choice system (ideal), there would be an opportunity for other Democrats to make the final. Think this is just a hypothetical? It’s why CA-31 elected a Republican in 2012 despite going heavily for Obama, and it’s why Washington elected a Reoublican treasurer in 2016. Moreover, the eisk of this happening reinforces the shadow primary where party insiders get to decide who even runs and who gets forced out. There are real problems with our current system. A very large, very white and gold ballroom with Baroque-style arched windows, coved ceilings, and gold chandeliers obviously meant to invoke comparisons to Versailles. Completely inappropriate to the architectural style of the White House.
