Bernie’s spent his whole career defining “the elite” not as “the best,” but as the tiny class of people who hoard wealth and political power at everyone else’s expense. Even though he’s influential and undeniably skilled at politics, he sees himself as an outsider trying to hold them accountable.

It's a little weird to select a voice against one of the comparatively few left-wing authoritarians with so many right-wing authoritarians around. Several supporters of US authoritarianism wrote in support of her because the US right hates Venezuela. Strong "Contras are the good guys" energy here.

Spot on. It’s telling that Western elites celebrate dissent only when it targets the “right” enemies. Machado’s courage is real, but the applause is performative. It's coming from the same crowd cheering authoritarianism at home.
