Forty-one years after 1984 and 37 years after 1988, Kirk Gibson is in the midst of his biggest October yet.

Here’s how Parkinson’s disease changed a World Series legend. And here’s how the new Kirk Gibson Center is helping change lives.

Ten years into his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Kirk Gibson is still changing lives in October
Gibson's most famous moment came 37 years ago this month. Now he's leading another team towards a very different goal.

People can change - even old dogs. 😉

Tremendous example from Gibby, and a tremendous article from you, Cody.
Every year we hear feedback that “This is the worst season of #SNL ever.”

And for many years, I’ve countered with returning cast still giving their all in hilarious sketches or new talent emerging, aided by writing that remained clever and original.

Not anymore. We’re at rock bottom in S51.

Get on your stylist’s schedule!
Bye-bye Ray-Ray

Hope you’re OK…
The #Falcons released WR Ray-Ray McCloud III, who was sent home last week.
Such a great list!

My brother collected the entire Dick Tracy line back then. Might be several actors with those action figures as their only ones ever.

For example, I don’t recall a Warren Beatty figure for Reds. 😅

Recently I went down a very deep Internet rabbit hole trying to find the strangest and most random action figures based on Hollywood actors. This is what I found. The pictures ... well, they’re very troubling in some cases.

A note for sports: Bluesky’s engagement rate was x10 higher than X’s across a sampling of identical posts made on both platforms by @rapsheet.bsky.social (sharing with permission)

Fwiw we see a similar trend across all communities, not just sports. Real people, real conversations.

a poll idea that just popped into my head: since we've collectively been doing 90's nostalgia for awhile as a culture, what's your secret/stealth best 90's album? not something necessarily widely super critically beloved but is nonetheless great and defining for you?
This Seattle sampler platter brought so many bands to my attention and their CDs to my collection.

Now it serves as a personal wayback machine to my once hopeful, romantic attitude and optimistic excitement that carries one through the challenges of surviving young adulthood.
New pants always a plus.

We also need Gap to track down those dancers and then film the same sequences in their middle-aged state. 😅

(Or maybe that’s a video sketch for #SNL.)
Bought a new pair of khakis for work.

Can’t stop seeing 90s Gap commercials in my head…
So do I just forget about shaving this morning?

Have you watched Detroiters? His character’s dilemmas and/or flaws were propelled through the episodes by his wild, unhinged humor

The Family Reunion episode (S2 Ep3) showed his self-realization journey about being harsh. Hysterical. Now on Netflix.
Keith - I just read the newsletter (which I do right after receiving, unlike most) and want to know why the baseball hiring calendar is in Aug/Sept.

Do teams decide about future directions soon after the draft, the season halfway mark…or after years of that restructuring timing it’s a thing?
One of these things is not like the other.

Tory Horton:

9.83 RAS, 66th of 3815 WR prospects from 1987-2025

Strong YAC, AY, catch & drop %s, and route success

Opportunity - Already WR3 on depth chart, with injury-prone WR2 ahead, lesser talent behind

But I get your general message per hype.
Watching Idiocracy for the first time on Hulu.

I sometimes can’t tell if the commercials are part of the movie without the timer countdown in the top right corner…

Up early thanks to the cats, might as well see what madcap antics that eyeball creature got itself mixed up in this week on Alien: Earth…
One home league draft down, one to go!

Yesterday was a 24-team keeper league with IDP from the 1.22 spot.

Today is a 12-team redraft superflex from the 1.08 spot.

Both online, but hoping to attend the first someday & the second should be live again in 2026.

Prepping for my drafts this weekend, Little Critters Clubhouse & Hoppy Poppy’s Biergarten.

Thanks to my Premium membership at @fantasypros.bsky.social via their promotion with Novig, I am downloading projections and crunching away in Excel!

(And thanks Panera Bread for the Sip Club iced tea…)

If you don't play IDP, you should.

If you do play IDP, you should be at today's AMA with Ryan Sitzmann, the IDP Guru.

Why should offensive players have all the fun?

Another concept lost to history, since far fewer magazines are in regular circulation for snipping and ransom demands seem to be mostly for data and sent via email…

(Also, do grade school art projects use letters printed out in different fonts and sizes, lacking stacks of magazines in classrooms?)
Also the subject of a recent article at @theathletic.com.

I haven’t seem them yet, but I appreciate seeing good-natured attention for baseball. Kids go nuts to attend their appearances.
