thanks to @ricklane.bsky.social for talking to me and other modders. sorry not-sorry for the ludicrous headline quote

btw credit to @asponge.bsky.social who coined “concrete murderzones” years ago to describe QBJ1 and it stuck in my head all these years
‘It’s the underground Met Gala of concrete murderzone design’: welcome to the Quake Brutalist Game Jam
Quake Brutalist Jam began as a celebration of old-fashioned shooter level design, but its latest version is one step away from being a game in its own right

First and most importantly is to recognise its legacy. Freeplay was the longest-running independent games festival in the world. It was one of the first dedicates spaces for the countercultural and political side of gamemaking.

Went along to my first local Green Party meeting this morning.

A welcoming, considerate and lovely group of folks… albeit a group in which no one warned me my flies were open the ENTIRE TIME.

she’s wearing the “ONE THOUSAND POUND SKIRT” today lads.

…dress for the bank account you wish you had.
The skirt I am now flouncing round the house in was £910 RRP … down to FIFTY QUID.

I’ve never been blessed by such bargains.

this past month I've been interviewing various alt game event organisers, collectives and curators past & present for my upcoming article in @apwot.bsky.social - spending time chatting with that international community has been so darn restorative & delightful.

"...part of the dynamism of Alexander as an interlocuter is the extent to which her personal biography is braided into the trajectory of gaming’s twisting twenty-first-century form."

THANK YOU @lainenooney.bsky.social for this interview.

The greatest thing that has happened to me all year happened today.

I know the bar isn’t super high but…

I caught a clearance sale at the bougie clothes shop in town.

I have purchased £1270 worth of clothes… reduced to 80 bloody quid.

QT (non comprehensive) audit report

- Tolkien
- Pratt
- Adams
- Martin
- programming manuals
- books by & about David Lynch
- & a surprisingly high incidence of Calvin & Hobbes
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Big stationary news for me - I’ve changed out my main pen to a Twisbi Eco (broad nib)

I never truly loved my Kaweco Sport (nib often ran dry) + the refillable cartridge is soooo small.

The Twisbi has a piston ink compartment which means NO cartridges & boy howdie it writes so satisfyingly.

Whilst I’m not yet ready to ‘dance out’ I went to watch & support the Morris side I’ve been learning with on Boxing Day.

Roo came along as well and was SO well behaved - although not a huge fan of the drum and bell heavy dances.

I wrote an article about dialogue choice as part of a narrative designer’s toolkit *aside* from branching, instead considering how choice can invite us to *perform* a character.

My case study is South of Circle’s beautiful fuzzy meaning-making (using symbols instead of words). 💜 Give it a go!
