I audibly gasped at this shortsighted move. We have failed to help the public understand that health isn't an individual issue, that you can't build a wall to keep disease out, and that community health is key to individual well-being. We see this with vaccination and we see it here. 💔
Catastrophe: Florida's Department of Health is stopping coverage for antivirals to 10,000 low-income people with HIV infection, blaming impending federal cuts to the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. 12.5% of Americans with HIV live in Florida.

I’m reposting this, because this Greenland move and the related attacks on our allies are some truly crazy crap. And to hear Republicans like Ted Cruz fall in line … well, Trump is apparently a powerful drug.
The mental gymnastics that Republicans have to go through to justify Trump's absolutely batshit crazy positions must be painful. I mean, imagine how Republicans prior to 2015 would have reacted if you'd suggested sanctioning NATO countries for refusing to support our seizure of land from an ally.

Honestly, I could have done without the neighbor clearing their walk, and nobody else’s, with a very loud snow blower at 6a.m. on a holiday.

There was a restaurant in Madison, WI, called the Wild Iris, run by this lovely lesbian couple. They had these spiedini, skewers of breaded beef with bay leaves, that were amazing and that I’ve never found anywhere since. It was such a great date night place!

How many allies do you think we'll have to invade to divert attention from Trump and his cronies' implication in the Epstein files?
Here's a filing from DOJ on Friday challenging the law requiring release of the files, a filing that I haven't see covered in the press at all.

I find it reassuring that Massachusetts leaders are preparing for a possible ICE surge, but what a screwed up country we’re living in if local and regional governments are forced to plan for what is effectively an invasion by the national government!
We are so far from democracy as normal.

Of course ICE is going after Native Americans, the only people in the country who are NOT immigrants. Because it was never about safety or legality or citizenship. It was always about whiteness.

What exactly does it mean to “win” an election? Bobi Wine almost certainly got more votes than Museveni, but the system was rigged. A more accurate headline would say: “Yoweri Museveni, one of Africa’s most corrupt leaders, declared winner of fraudulent election.”
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, one of Africa’s most dominant leaders, won re-election on Saturday to extend his four decades in power.

In Trump 1, we said that the cruelty is the point, but it’s clear in Trump 2, that cruelty is both an end in itself, because they enjoy inflicting suffering on others, but also a tool to try to demoralize, intimidate, and silence opponents. It’s a classic authoritarian tactic.
They sat for hours with untreated pepper spray injuries and were laughed at by ICE agents when they asked for medical attention, or even a bottle of water. They were released hours later with no explanation. Their personal belongings were returned except their cell phones, which remain with ICE.

The Insurrection Act is not "martial law." It doesn't displace civilian law, it doesn't suspend habeas corpus, it doesn't alter or suspend state and local government, and it doesn't make anything newly illegal. It allows using the military to enforce existing law, it doesn't change what the law is.

Wisdom! Let us attend:
I appreciate @jamellebouie.net's thread and the replies rejecting the fear of Trump cancelling the midterms. As someone who studies authoritarian regimes, though, I would argue that there are many ways to undermine elections without outright cancelling them.
i don't even know why i'm raising this here because i know i'm going to get a hundred replies of "Trump has god powers that will let him do whatever he wants and thus we have no choice but to bend to his will," but for those of you capable of complex thought, these are questions to ask yourself.
